While everyone has grown up watching either the Leslie Ann Warren or Brandy versions of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella, the Julie Andrews original is just delightful. Chances are you've never seen it, since it spent decades buried in the vault without a repeat airing on television; but it's available now, so what are you waiting for? Warren's version has the benefit of an all-star cast, with Ginger Rogers and Walter Pidgeon, and Brandy has the novelty factory, but nothing can ever beat Julie Andrews's exquisite soprano voice and her shining beauty. The studio didn't even bother trying to "ugly her up" in the beginning, for what would be the point? There's simply no way to "ugly up" Julie Andrews.
Included in this live television performance are some songs that didn't make it into the other two, but the prince's song "Loneliness of Evening" is missing. If that's the only reason you like Cinderella, stick with the Warren remake. Everyone else, pop some corn and curl up with your mom for a trip down memory lane.
