Atrractive Sci-Fi movie with a series of delightfully inventive scenes and limited but acceptable special effects

Intelligent and thought-provoking science-fiction movie with interesting elements , dealing with a man who finds himself the planet's sole reluctant survivor of a catastrophic error in the secret energy project on which he's been engaged and the combination of self-delusion and guilt soon sends him off his rocker . Zac Hobson (Bruno Lawrence) wakes up to find that he is apparently the only person left on Earth , with no people and a animals . At the beginning , it seems to be he's the only one survivor to an apocalypse . Hobson is fearful that the world encircling energy grid on which he'd been working may have been responsible . As he sets out to find other people . Along the way , Zac proclaiming himself world dictator , attempting a little of travestism and eventually challenging God to a duel. Soon after , he meets others - Joanne (Alison Routledge) , a pretty young woman, and Api (Pete Smith) , a huge Maori tribesman. At the moment of the apocalypse all three were at a situation of supposed death--Zac's attempted suicide, Joanne's exploding hair dryer, Api struggling with another man . Later on , among the three main characters emerging jealousy , confrontation , fighting and problems continuing . The End of the World is Just the Beginning. First-class science fiction thriller from New Zealand with nice premise , genuine oddity, and surprising conclusion . Resulting to be a clever and absorbing adaptation of the book by Craig Harrison. Concerning a world apocalypse due to a malfunction of a government project that results in unpredictable consequences . Highlights of the movie are the desolate Auckland locations , some nice sight gags and Bruno Lawrence's fine acting . Stars Bruno Lawrence who gives a terrific acting as a scientific researcher who wakes one morning and discovers that all living beings have vanished , being well accompanied by Alison Routledge , Pete Smith and Anzac Wallace

The motion picture was well directed by Geoff Murphy . He was born in 1938 in Wellington, New Zealand and died in 2010 . Named an 'Arts Icon' by the Arts Foundation, which named New Zealand's 20 greatest living artists. Murphy excelled at fast action films , especially during his decade-long sojourn in Hollywood , such as : The Last Outlaw, Freejack , Fortress 2 , Red King, White Knight, and making knockabout comedies , such as : Goodbye Pork Pie ,Wild Man . Geoff was a good director and actor, especially known for Dante's Peak (1997) , Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1995) and The Quiet Earth (1985). Rating : 6.5. Better than average . Well worth watching .
