Rogue Agent (2022)

A bit like the curate's egg

James Norton seemed to relish this part which gave him the chance to explore the dark side of human nature . He played a conman who convinced his victims he was recruiting for MI5. Judging by the speed with which his victims lined up. You could have believed all of the UK aspired to work for Spooks. Although seriously this is an entertaining film and showed how it all implodes, we don't get to see what drove him to do it. The obvious motive seems like greed as all the ladies who succumbed to his charms handed over large sums of money.

Norton owned the part and Gemma Arterton was equally convincing as a potential victim who wakes up before it's too late. This film is based on truth and it's horrifying to think how easily some of us can be deluded by a smooth charmer.
