Inferior to Green Lantern: First Flight but entertaining nonetheless.
9 August 2022
In 2009 I watched my first Green Lantern animated film. This was my first time watching this superhero. I never read the comic book or watched the Ryan Reynolds live action movie.

In short, I was blown away by the script, animation and talented voice-actors. This is proof of what can be achieved with the right story and direction and is a real gem that can be watched again and again without getting bored.

Back to Green Lantern: Beware My Power. In this one a recently discharged marine John Stewart who has been severely affected by his tour of duty and sore in need of counseling is given another chance by being a defender of the universe as a Green Lantern when he is given the ring by one of the last and dying ancients.

The movie in itself is dark. There is some tongue-in-cheek humor but not over the top. The action scenes are also good but not excellent. The voice actors do a competent job but the script itself is so ludicrous and mind boggling that it lets the whole film down, which is a shame as it was a good one to begin with.

A welcome change from Hal Jordan to John Stewart to add to the Green Lantern franchise. Hope to see more movies concerning this superhero in the future.
