Masterful!

Warning: Spoilers
I was 12 years old when the movie of this series came out. I saw it when it premiered in the movie theater. Back when you were basically an adult at 13 and people smoked in the theater. I'd read about it long before it was even made (shout out to "Tiger Beat") because I was kinda disappointed that John Travolta (original lead pick) wasn't doing it. Turns out, Richard Gere embodied Julian Kaye in a sleek and elegant way JT I don't think could have.

It's hard to reflect on an 80s movie in today's 'everybody gets a trophy, they, them, their, don't say this, can't say that' lens. Most of the great movies of 30 to 40 years ago, were inappropriate and "cringey" by today's standards. But still great nonetheless.

The pilot answered many of the questions I had even back then. And more! Where did Julian come from? What was Michelle's story? I like the direction of the why behind his prison stint - which appeared to not even exist in the movie. Wayne Brady is a welcomed addition to the story. I'm interested in seeing how that plays out.

All in all, I completely disagree with the few critic reviews calling this 'stale' and 'pointless.' For the true fans of this movie, it's awesome to see this fresh take on a beloved classic. I just hope they continue to do it justice.

Also, John Berenthal is pretty much phenomenal playing anyone so there's that!
