The Mummy (1932)
6/10
Definitely a genre classic...
20 October 2022
For some strange reason I have actually never gotten around to watch the 1932 classic horror movie "The Mummy". Why? Well, I suppose because I wasn't all that fond of older stuff or black and white stuff when I was younger, so I never got around to watching it. But as the opportunity presented itself again here in 2022, of course I opted to sit down and watch director Karl Freund's 1932 movie.

Writer John L. Balderston did a great job with turning writers Nina Wilcox Putnam and Richard Schayer's written work into a script adaptation for the screen. And I found the storyline to be enjoyable. Sure, this wasn't downright scary horror, but there were elements of horror in this supernatural thriller. While the narrative of "The Mummy" is a bit slow paced, the story is actually good enough to sustain it being told in such a slow pace.

The acting performances in "The Mummy" are good, and Boris Karloff definitely carries the movie quite well, proving that there is more to him that just portraying Frankenstein's abomination of a creature.

"The Mummy" is definitely worth checking out, despite it being 90 years old and in black and white. I was genuinely entertained by this movie.

My rating of "The Mummy" lands on a six out of ten stars.
