"He's leaving....leaving....on a midnight bus to somewhere???"
17 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Given the narrative coherency of this film young Freddie may as well have been heading somewhere over the rainbow, but alas we have to stick with what has been presented to us here and the end product, sadly, is not very good...

So following a frantic chase, Freddie, is fleeing, (to different places according to the narrative) he's bleeding like hell and is clearly struggling, but manages to befriend a teenage girl called Rachel (both parties initially hate one another, but gradually they bond and an unlikely alliance begins to materialise as the film progresses). I'm fully aware of the 'bystander effect' and I'm therefore aware that sometimes Joe Public will ignore things that they sometimes should react upon, but seriously for most of the film Freddie is clearly in agony and in latter parts of the film he is beyond the point where people cannot spot it, yet for most of the film this goes unnoticed (moreover his obviously bloody right handed which goes unquestioned throughout the film). The bus driver (who at one point goes from employee of the year; for dealing with the Sullivan senior and junior debacle, to ignoring other events later in the film). Come on dude. You had one job!!!

Anyway, we have to remember that this film features Kevin Bacon and whilst his presence is notable, this is hardly his crowning glory. Aside from about 5-10 minutes on the bus talking to his son, he is only featured in phone calls whereas admittedly his A-Hole namesake is deserved, he does not really make the impact on the picture that his billing/marketing may suggest.

Anyways, later in the film after being slightly objectionable Freddie becomes an avenging angel of sorts, saving young Rachel from a predator (this was a really strong component of the film). It is weakened slightly by Freddie continually asking Rachel of her age (it starts at 21, then it goes to 17, then it goes to 15 and then 14). Seriously who is going to believe that Rachel is 14??? She must be the oldest looking 14 year old ever. I wondered what was going to happen if Freddie pressed her further. Would she turn round and say "actually I'm a 6 year old with giantism." Sometimes it just got too silly for my liking.

Ending on a positive, the acting was pretty good; Travis Fimmel, Kevin Bacon, Storm Reid and Colson Baker are all great and special notice goes to Drea De Matteo (seriously how can this woman be 50 years old - she looks great).

The problem with One Way is that it isn't exciting and lacks any real incidents and little that will truly involve the audience. Despite Freddie showing some likeability, this is still a pretty poor show.
