It's a sensible woman who allows a divorce to go through peacefully, especially when there's a child involved, and for young Sarah Paulson, it's obvious that when mom Kathleen Turner decides she needs to find her own voice that it has to be at least temporary without her, finding dad Colm Feore so much easier to deal with. Turner hadn't been on her own or without feeling needed for her support since she first married, so she's a bit of a basket case, driving Paulson nutty with her neuroses. But this is no "War of the Roses" divorce. They obviously remain in love, and when Turner is diagnosed with breast cancer, it's her ex-husband and maturing daughter who are constantly by her side.
This is a change of pace, three truly nice people dealing with changes in a sensible and ethical manner, although there are reasons between both Turner and Feore that indicate how they were at fault and what their justifications were. So in spite of Feore being too busy to give his wife and daughter his full attention as he becomes more successful and Turner having a public meltdown (involving a poor waiter who happens to be in the way), these are great people whom the audience can root for, and when Turner refers to him as her best friend, it's truly touching. Look for Broadway vet Faith Prince as a close friend of Turner's, as well as great shots of New York City parks throughout the seasons. Definitely a tearjerker, but filled with hope and heart.
