Evil Bong 420 (2015)
3/10
Gone in a different direction
19 June 2023
After watching the previous three films in the series consecutively, the fourth film feels like a slightly different change in structure and tone as it has gone in a different direction.

Still being directed by Charles Band, a lot of the main characters that appeared in the first three aren't present here, and there are a few new additions. Alistair, Bachman, Brett, and the grandpa are not in this film. Also to note, Luann (Robin Sydney) appears to have a character name change. She is referenced as Sarah but still appears to be the same character of Luann (this wasn't exactly explained- which caused slight confusion).

The plot focuses more on Rabbit operating a topless, weed smoking bowling alley. Larnell is present but his role is smaller (beard is gone, attire is different, seems to have grown up more). The Evil bong Ebee of course is still here. Now the Gingerdead Man is more of a central character and he has a few highlight scenes (including an odd explicit scene with one of the bowling employees). Also an odd character named Hambo, which he appears to have a pig snot for a nose as he makes pig jokes and puns. Didn't find him funny.

With the shortest running time (only 53 minutes), this really isn't great as it has a different feel. They made sure to provide the most skin of the franchise so far to possibly distract viewers. Surely the could have added more plot development and more depth, considering the ending felt rushed.

Overall Evil Bong 420 isn't on the level of the original but is slightly more entertaining than the third. It's short run time helps it.
