It's taking some creative liberties to the characters, while pandering to the audience. Is it for kids, is it for adults? What's with the glowing eyes and red underwear. The logic of, here is a suit from a futuristic society that looks modern; to which Martha thinks is a reasonable idea to add red underwear on the outside of the suit, while calling them shorts makes perfect sense? Also no idea what the whole glowing blue eyes is all about. It makes it seem that superman has a specific power-source that is separate from his natural reaction to the earths sun. Or that it is making it seem that it's this weird switch or trigger that happens when he needs it most, which is a bit odd.
