Baldur's Gate III (2023 Video Game)
10/10
Best RPG in years

Not many games are true "RPGs" anymore, too many just throw skill trees and a few branching narratives into their action games. This brings me back to the golden age of RPGs like Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect trilogy. The story is great, tons of branching paths, I've played it three times now and have discovered tons of new content, characters, side quests, and going online I see there's a ton more that I haven't discovered. The combat is super in depth, based off of DND 5e but with tons of cool and unique gear that can have enormous potential for really interesting synergies. I've made a sorcerer who is basically Elsa freezing everyone with rays of frost, a cleric that acts like a divine wrecking ball flying around the slaughtering and blinding people by just getting close to them, and a bloodthirsty fighter making 4 attacks a turn with a 35% chance to double damage each time. You can recruit a dog, an owlbear cub, a little brain that disguises itself as a kitty, and even summon an army of ghouls. Every side quest feeds into the final act by allowing you to summon a powerful ally to help you win the day. The recruitable characters are all super interesting with a lot of depth in how their arcs develop depending on your actions. Every problem can be solved by sneaking around, running in swinging, or just wagging your silvery tongue. I'm addicted, and it has ruined other rpg games for me. Easiest 10/10 in my life.
