American Gothic, created by Shaun "Hardy Boys" Cassidy, was an underrated drama-horror series from the 90s, and it should have gone on for more than one season. Gary Cole gave a bad boy persona to his role as the sheriff who is more than the sheriff that's for sure, and I remember Gary Cole from Midnight Caller a few years before.
One feature of American Gothic was the twists and unexpected character developments, e.g. The Deputy Sheriff (Nick Searcy) stood up to the Sheriff in later episodes, so you had different alliances throughout its one and only season.
