I don't even need to watch the 2017 remake in order to realise how worse it is. I have no doubt that Sophia Coppola didn't understand a thing from the original. So, i am very glad i watched the original first. Not that this is some kind of masterpiece. It isn't. But it is a good psychological drama (thriller) which doesn't spoonfed the viewer. This movie respects your intelligence, hoping that you will understand its complexity, nuances and multiple layers. On the outside, Eastwood is just a rooster in a hen house. But you don't have to be Sigmund Freund to realise that things are much more complicated. The whole movie is a powerplay. Eastwood's character is a man with sexual needs of course but above all, he wants to survive. There are no villains and heroes here, although Eastwood is far from a good guy. However, these women and girls ain't no angels either, except from the little one with the turtle, she is innocent as it gets. But every other character here has skeletons in her closet.

And this is the reason that old movies are way better than the trash movies nowadays. The only agenda they serve is Cinema itself. Most of them are artistic creations not means for propaganda. And they are not PC.

In conclusion, this is not a masterpiece, it's flawed and to be honest, it's totally immoral and even perverse. Still, i respect it because above all, this is Art.
