Flight and liberation
3 April 2024
Flight and liberation, liberation from one's own framework, separating from a self that has changed, a self that has so boiled within to reach a hidden principle. As a viewer, I critique this film; the film was according to my liking, an analysis of a character. Although in my country (Iran), a film titled "Parviz" has been made, directed by "Majid Barzegar" with the role of "Parviz," resembling Fúsi, played by the late "Levon Haftvan." I saw a somewhat similar sense and character between them, but the destinies of these two characters diverged and had different endings. This made the feelings that Fúsi had a bit more familiar and tangible for me. The film, with the fewest characters, focused its attention on the main subject and was very successful. I will not delve into details or drag out specifics; overall, it was a good film. The actors were very present, playing their roles without confession, and it was evident that they displayed neither more nor less than what the director wanted, which itself is a success.

The name that was before me for this film was "Virgin Mountain," which was a metaphor for the immense stature and virginity of this character and was clever. I had no prior knowledge of this director or film, but the name enticed me to watch it, and I do not regret seeing it; in fact, I am pleased. In the Icelandic version, I saw that the name of this film was registered as the name of its character, Fúsi, and after some research, I realized that the meaning of this name reaches flight and liberation, something I saw in the last scene of the film where the person is going to a new place, a new continent, a new climate, and everything is different for him, showing his eagerness for change and his aversion to the current situation, a situation in which he has become trapped and enslaved by his body and life circumstances. In allegory, too, we see this flight and liberation, moving away from past character and conditions, going after change and liberation from the past, perhaps, perhaps a better future will be built for him, and he will move away from past routines.
