It's easy to forget that The Simpsons first screened as shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show, and that two cast members of The Tracey Ullman Show, Julie Kavner and Dan Castelleneta, went on to voice Marge and Homer, respectively (Dan does many other voices, along with Julie of course), and in the shorts Homer sounds like Walter Matthau. Anyway, I remember one episode of The Tracey Ullman Show featured Keanu Reeves when he was establishing his stardom, and anyway, Tracey Ullman brought a lot of British-English wit and spark to her series and debut in primetime American television on a network that was establishing its footing.
