Review of Abigail

Abigail (2024)
7/10
old mansion horror
11 May 2024
Joey (Melissa Barrera), Frank (Dan Stevens), Rickles (William Catlett), Sammy (Kathryn Newton), Peter (Kevin Durand), and Dean (Angus Cloud) have been recruited by Lambert (Giancarlo Esposito) to kidnap young girl Abigail (Alisha Weir) for ransom. He claims that the father will pay $50 million.

I do have a problem with the mansion. From the moment they walk into the house, I thought the characters should worry about the owner of the place. Two of the characters are supposed to be really smart, but sometimes they are only smart when the story requires it. More than that, this movie is pushing too hard to be haunted house horror. The place is a little too obvious. It would be more logical and quite frankly more compelling to use a non-descript warehouse or an abandoned industrial plant. Also, somebody seem to have watched M3GAN and decided to do something similar. Again, this strikes me as trying to hard. Despite those two issues, the premise is good, the characters are interesting, and I like the actors. It's fun.
