Started out great, but...

I had no idea what I was in for here, as I stumbled upon writer Ian Fenton's 2014 movie "White Settlers" (aka "The Blood Lands"). But with it being a horror and/or thriller movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to sit down and watch it.

And "White Settlers" was off to a good start, because I didn't know that it was starring Pollyanna McIntosh. So it was quite a pleasant surprise to see her on the screen.

While the movie stated out quite nicely, and definitely had some potential, especially if it would have turned out to have been a supernatural thriller, it just crumbled as it turned out to be another generic home-invasion type of thriller. In a split second my interest in the movie went from being adequate to nearly non-existing. Sure, I managed to finish watching the movie, but I wasn't particularly entertained.

The acting performances in the movie were fair, despite the fact that I ended up caring so little about the script and narrative. I was actually only familiar with Pollyanna McIntosh on the entire cast list here. But they had a good cast ensemble that performed well.

Visually then you're not in for anything grant. It is a movie that has a lot of scenes in darkness, which grows tiring rather quickly. If I wanted to only watch something partially, I would not sit down and waste my time on a movie that was meant to be entertaining.

I have to say that the titled "White Settlers" made zero sense to me, and the alternative title "The Blood Lands" would have been a much more appropriate title for the movie.

My rating of director Simeon Halligan's 2014 thriller "White Settlers" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.
