Cougar Country a Movie-Mentory
drrlljhnsn11 August 2009
Nothing wrong with this movie. If your a nature or animal lover, you should thoroughly enjoy this film. Cougar Country is quite an adventure and definitely shows Whiskers innocence growing up with some great scenery. If it comes around again, I feel it is a film that everyone should see at least one time. A heart warming film that you never forget! I'm shocked and surprised it was never transferred onto VHS or DVD and sold for the public to enjoy. This film goes hand in hand with the movie 'Born Free'. It seems that there are a lot of forgotten type movies that are just locked up after they are seen on the big screen. They should all be reviewed from time to time to see if they are possibly marketable.

What do you compare this movie to?

This movie was memorable to me, but probably only because it was the first (out of 2) movies my mom let me go to the theater to see when I was growing up. The movie consisted of endless dialog about some cougar off on a journey of discovery or some such thing, with encounters with various other critters along the way. I suppose the intent was nature / educational or perhaps early environmental awareness, but mostly it was just dull - and not particularly realistic (the cougar in question never killed or ate anything that I recall). What I remember the most about it was the excitement of my first exposure to the "big screen" and my first taste of movie theater popcorn - neither of which of course had anything to do with the movie.

Despite a few releases on VHS this magnificent film has yet to transferred and released in any format. If you love exotic cats and you cherish the beauty that we still have left on this planet and this is the film for you. It's astonishing footage I believe that was shot over the course of about three years. For a time span ofthe late 1960s into the early 1980s mountain lions were featured in numerous films. I believe there are 10 live action films in total from Benji the Hunted to Charlie The Lonesome cougar to Run Cougar Run etc. Unlike other mountain lion films this primarily takes place in the wild with no human interaction until the end. The narrator is excellent. But most of all it's scenery scenery that looks like Montana or Idaho that's so beautiful. Especially the closing shot. This film deserves to be released in the 21st century. It's a masterpiece.
