Nice visuals, complex story

I stumbled across this movie on the Best of Troma volume 3 DVD. It was like nothing else on that DVD, which had lots of low budget and campy films. Kid Fears has high production values and is artsy. I was intrigued from the outset, even though there was no dialogue. The story lines, character doubles and psycho-drama reminded me a little bit of David Lynch's recent style. The black and white photography is beautiful, the blood is oil black, the lights at the carnival pop like stars. The music is pretty cool too, sometimes carnival style, sometimes electronic, dust brothers sounding. Above all, the story about trying to compensate for a childhood fear was elegant and unique. This is one of my favorite short films!
