An explosive finish and a memorable guest star smooth over office politics
Mr-Fusion12 May 2017
I vividly remember watching season 5 during its original broadcast, and this episode in particular. We were promised a guest shot from Peter Weller, and I was counting the episodes until he showed up. And to this day, he still walks away with it. It helps that the role had its own mystique (whoa, the guy who recruited Jack!), but he's also a force to be reckoned with, going toe-to-toe with Kiefer in their big scene.

But there's also the attack on Suvarov's motorcade, which serves as the big finish. It's a well-engineered action set piece that delivers on all of the Logan hand-wringing up to this point.

Looking back at these two elements, it's easy to forgive all of the maneuvering and drama going down at CTU, which honestly feels like major wheel-spinning.

Superb Action

There's still so long to go. Major events involve the fact that the First Lady is in the car with the Russians and they are coming under deadly attack. McGill is going crazy at CTU, firing everyone, ignoring warnings, filled with ego. Jack is investigating further Omicron and makes some serious mistakes. There is going to be hell to pay. One thing that will bother me is the collateral damage, like the Secret Service agents on the motorcycles. Other citizens who don't seem to count. But then it is fiction.
