Establishing the main cast

Warning: Spoilers
The Andromeda has been boarded by the salvage team and a group of mercenaries; the latter have been instructed to find and kill Captain Dylan Hunt. He has no intention of letting them take the ship though and begins a fight back... on the other hand he has no intention of killing anybody if he can help it. Soon the salvage team, most notably Trance Gemini, start to question whether they are on the right side... unfortunately she is shot and killed when she states her intention to leave. It later looks as though it will be impossible to capture the Andromeda so Gerentex tries to push it into the black hole with Dylan, two of his salvage team and mercenary Tyr Anasazi still aboard. This unlikely group must work together if they are to survive.

This episode follows on immediately from the series opener effectively making it a two part story; it also tells us who the series protagonists will be... although that detail is somewhat spoilt by the opening which shows all the main cast. Having the main cast shown before the episode also spoilt the 'death' of Trance Gemini; on the plus side I'm glad she survived as she is already being set up as an intriguing characters and actress Laura Bertram does a fine job in the role. Dylan Hunt still comes across as a bit too perfect; hopefully the character will improve a bit as the series continues. The rest of the main characters are more interesting; Tyr may have joined the team but at this point his future loyalty seems far from certain; Rev Bem is a species best known for eating people; Seamus Harper could turn out to be fun or annoying, thankfully he is currently rather fun; Beka Valentine is perhaps a bit bland but she hasn't really had much to do yet so it is a little too soon to judge. Overall this was a solid second episode which nicely introduces the characters and features some good action; it might not be a classic sci-fi series but it looks as if it will be well worth watching.

An Affirming Flame

The second episode is effectively a continuation of the first one. By the end it sets up its stall.

The Andromeda has been invaded by mercenaries led by Gerentex and salvage crew led by Valentine who follow Gerentex's orders. Captain Dylan Hunt has to repel them both.

Luckily Valentine and her crew begin to question why they are allied with the slimy Gerentex.

The second episode was a slight improvement from the opener. It marks out Gerentex as the baddie as he sends Andromeda to a black hole when he could not have control of the ship.

It also leads to Hunt persuading the others to restore the commonwealth. The mission statement of the show.

It helped that the second episode is better paced, Hunt and others show a bit more cheesy humour.
