Wonderfully sentimental finale
grantss18 December 2022
Godber is due to see the parole board in a few days where he is almost certain to get a parole. However, the prison troublemaker, a brute named Jarvis, is looking to start a fight with Godber and Godber seems keen to oblige him. Fletcher can't talk Godber down so considers drastic measures to prevent Godber ruining his chance at parole.

A wonderful ending to the series. Fletcher is willing to be punished himself in order to ensure that Godber gets his deserved parole. For the first time we see that Fletcher can be selfless and a mentor, a view that is highlighted in the final scene.

The episode also takes the Porridge story full circle as Episode 1 was Godber's first day in prison. Shows the prison cycle.

Not that this is all drama and sentimentality and no comedy. On the contrary, the usual Porridge humour is still there. The scene with Jarvis and Crusher is particularly funny.
