It's No Place Like Home for the Holidays (#5.12)

Warning: Spoilers
It is Christmas. And it is snowing. Roseanne gets snowed in the diner with Jackie Beverly and Nana. Becky can't come because of snow either. Darlene has a fight with David but stays at his place while snowed in and meets his mother. after she sees him in a different way and they make up.

So I guess Becky's abrupt marriage did indeed happen because the actress couldn't be on the show anymore. They try so hard to make her not even come for Holiday episodes. Too bad I was kind of hoping to see more of them.

I feel bad for David's mom. I just see her being accused by her husband and son but no reason to see it is indeed like that. Oh sure they made her wear a mini skirt she must be a bad person. We'll see where they go from here.

The whole talk about God was interesting. I didn't notice that Roseanne was so religious. Glad they don't make it a big part of the show. And it was funny how they did it in this episode.

Dan dealing with Nancy and Marla was great. Both the hilarious gifts part and him wondering how they will have kids.

Classic TV Xmas Countdown Episode #16
kgraovac20 December 2023
A snowstorm on Xmas Eve has Roseanne and Jackie stranded at the Lunch Box with Bev and Nana Mary; Nancy and Marla stuck at the Conner house with Dan and DJ; and Darlene trapped at David's place.

Of the four Xmas episodes of ROSEANNE, this one is probably the funniest and the best. Shelley Winters and Estelle Parsons help make it as good as it is and Winters steals every scene she's in. There are a lot of small funny moments for everyone. Dan's awkwardness when Nancy and Marla show each other affection; Roseanne and Jackie decorating Nana Mary, etc.

Most people will remember this one for the scene where we meet David's abusive mother, played by Sally Kirkland -- a hot mess if we ever saw one.

The show was at its creative peak when this originally aired. 8/10.

🎅 Brilliant Xmas Episode
floridacalisurferboy26 December 2023
🏆 The BEST Christmas Episode of the ROSEANNE series. A truly outstanding guest cast adds weight to this story about the family separated at Christmas time because of the terrible weather. Shelley Winters and Estelle Parsons as Roseanne's mom and grandma are hilarious. Scenes in the snowbound diner are very real and played for both laughs and drama. Guest actress Sally Kellerman is superb as villian style prostitute mom of David. While over at the house ultra conservative Dan is there with lesbian couple talking about wanting to conceive their own baby (While a scene with basting the Christmas turkey 🦃 is a wildly funny moment) ALL IN ALL... TELEVISION CHRISTMAS SERIES DON'T GET BETTER THAN THIS 🎄
