The Avatar State

This is such an amazing series. So well done. I have a lot of favorite moments and episodes but the one that can bring me to tears is when Ang loses it when he finds the one who stole Appa. It's not his most physically powerful display in the Avatar State but it's certainly the most emotional. So much so I felt the urge to express it here on my third watch through of the series. This show is timeless and nearly perfect.

"I never thought I would miss the taste of mud" (dialog TOPH)

Warning: Spoilers
What an amazing series. I am binge watching for the second time. I can't believe how good it is. And I cannot believe how the people behind this production did Korra, which pales in comparison. (Nor can I believe the money wasted on the film version in 2010).

This perfect episode not only has amazing dialog ("miss the taste of mud", "sand pudding" -- best lines go to Toph) but also the "lesson" of using friends to help you.

The most remarkable scene is where Aang goes ballistic at the loss of Appa and only Katara has the nerve to approach him and calm him down. This scene is every bit as powerful as the scenes in the live action Hulk movies where Hulk goes nuts and only Betty can approach him.

Again, this is one of the best series in the history of TV.

Hilarious and emotional!

This episode showcases this shows brilliant ability to mix humor with emotional and mature moments without it ever feeling "too much" on either side! Its funny when it is appropiate and mature when it needs to be!

In this episode we see how Aang is struggling with the loss of Appa, how much he means to him, and how he is about to go to dark place, blinded by hate and frustration! The end with him going into the Avatar state do to hate, was really emotional! It hits hard to see Aang so angry and sad, cause he rarely is!

The humor comes with Soka drinking Cactusjuice! He ends up hallucinating and the scenes with him and the dialogue creates absurd hillarity!

One of the funniest episodes of Avatar with some mature moments

Warning: Spoilers
One of the most prominent funny moments I think of when considering Avatar is: you guessed it. Cactus juice! It'll quench ya, nothing's quenchier, it's the quenchiest!

Alright I think you've had enough.

Who lit Toph on fire?

Some classics in this one with repeating.

We also get to see the dark side of Aang; he is at one of his lowest moments. Appa is lost, and he doesn't know how to cope. This will culminate in the end of the episode with the confrontation with the sandbenders. Avatar is not afraid to get serious and mature when it is presented the opportunity.

A great episode with solid moments.

It's the quenchiest

Sokka and Momo are hilarious in this episode but the best part of that is that it's not because of Sokka being an idiot but because he knows a cactus is a natural source of water which they need to survive (and because Momo samples it first he knows it won't physically harm him.). That said, when Sokka licks the cave after recovery, he still ends up looking like an idiot despite being the smart one. I can live with it because of the joke it sets up but he wouldn't last long at Willy Wonka's factory.

Aang being as angry and short-tempered makes narrative sense given he just lost Appa. Though his outbursts do make me feel sorry for Toph (which is the point.)

Likewise, I love the entire Zuko and Iroh subplot.

So this episode is quite good.
