Spawn vs Overkill
injury-654477 June 2020
The episode spends a lot of time showing us Spawn facing off against a hired cyborg named Overkill. I don't find big guy vs big guy to be a very inspired idea, but it's done well here. I like how he takes him down in the end without a lot of fanfare, just slaughters him on the operating table. Suits the nature of the show.

We get a sense of the unkillable nature of Spawn. He is very powerful but ultimately not indestructible. The resurrection mythology is interesting. I hope it gets explored more.

The scenes with Wanda and the intellectually stunted child-killer who is being framed are effective. Her arc is being brought into focus and she is becoming a great side character in her own right. She has her own mission in the show and is not simply there as Spawn's love interest.

This episode seems to really ramp up the eroticism. The scenes at the club and the scenes with Wanda playfully teasing her new man. It all adds to the atmosphere of carnality.

There is also a satisfying amount of casual violence.

Towards the end the flashbacks that Chapel has are intriguing. I'm sure we will learn more about the demise of Spawn and who is responsible.
