I do not know if it just me, or maybe it is the writing's fault, or maybe having watched the last season a year ago didn't have me connected that much but I had no feeling regarding Beocca's death. I did not feel anything about his execution. I liked the way it was twisted, two people died without seeing it comming. Father Beocca has had manny dramatic travels in his past so that wasn't an indication to let us know that this might happen. However a great episode. Bad brightness, but otherwise great.

S4: E3, Another one of Many Great Episodes
ronswilliams-031711 April 2024
I have been watching this series with plans of reviewing it upon completion. I was tempted to review this great episodic television production after viewing season 3 episode 9. (A breathtaking episode with truly award-winning acting and writing.)

Now, having just viewed S4: E3, I can wait no longer to praise this monumental series.

This episode had some truly surprising and shocking twists and turns, so typical of the entire show

If you're looking for a show that blends thrilling battles, complex characters, and a rich historical setting, then look no further than The Last Kingdom on Netflix.

The Last Kingdom shines with its captivating lead character. Alexander Dreymon portrays Uhtred with a perfect blend of charm, wit, and steely determination. You'll find yourself rooting for him as he fights for his destiny, all while delivering some truly epic battle sequences.

The series boasts excellent scripting, and a fantastic cast of characters, from the wise and determined King Alfred to the cunning and ambitious Aethelred. The relationships between these characters are complex and engaging, keeping you invested in their fates throughout the story.

The Last Kingdom takes some creative license with history. Still, the show does a great job of portraying the struggles and customs of Anglo-Saxon England. And, while the testosterone charged male characters are bound to disturb some woke minds, their masculinity and strength are historically appropriate. The fact that so many of the actors have handsome faces and chiseled bodies may be historically more fantasy than fact. But I do not object to eye candy and there are also some beautiful women and ultra strong female characters to balance the scales.

So, whether you're a history buff or simply enjoy a good action drama, The Last Kingdom is a must-watch. It's a show that will keep you entertained from the very first episode, leaving you hungry for more.

I plan to write more when I've completed this season and season 5, the last season of The Last Kingdom.

This episode hit me in the feels. Some great plot moments and a few really great heartfelt moments. I was not ready for that loss and I'm still recovering.

Perhaps this show should have ended in season 3
robert-vigil63 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Perhaps it's been too long since season three and that is the reason for my feelings towards the show; but this season is underwhelming from what I anticipated. I don't feel any attachment to the characters, nor the story line at this point. In fact, the show overall other than king Alfred's role went downhill for me because nothing ever really happens. There's just a man who always finds himself at the center of everything who's interest only lies in some wooden fort because it's "his birthright." He's had so many wives/women I don't remember any of them nor where his children came from. Every season a new Viking army raises just to be defeated in a decisive battle. Wessex never faces any real setbacks and there is no growth in the show. Now that Alfred is gone I don't really care about anyone in the show.

Uhtred's fascination with his wooden fort is kind of ridiculous at this point in the show. He has land in more prosperous Wessex, and now he is being granted "temporary" lordship over Mercia. Anyone would pounce on that opportunity and consolidate their position in Mercia, then owning lands in Wessex, ruling over Mercia, and then having more than enough power to retake his fort, adding it to his portfolio. However, Uhtred turns it down.

At this point in the show I don't care what happens to anyone and the only ending to this show I see is Uhtred or his offspring taking that fort, as of that is supposed to be exciting.
