Ted Danson has the Midas touch when it comes to comedy or drama series
Ed-Shullivan8 January 2021
Ted Danson may be 73 years old but he shows once again that he is a veteran of television and deserves the big star on his name over the theater marquee. Based on this pilot episode I think this new comedy series will be especially appreciated by anyone gainfully employed in civic politics who thinks their elected officials are breathing air belonging to someone else. Ted Danson who plays retired Los Angeles businessman and millionaire Neil Bremer decides to run for Mayor of Los Angeles just to impress his daughter and he is shocked to win the job.

The ensemble cast is supported by Saturday Night Live former cast members such as Rachel Dracht, and Bobby Moynihan, the creepy looking munchkin Holly Hunter (what happened to you Holly?) who the Mayor makes Deputy Mayor to keep his enemy closer and an eclectic cast of up and comers who believe they really run the Mayor's office and can influence his decisions which proves to be harder than they thought. Will this show survive a season one (1)? Hell yeah! Mayor Neil Bremer will definitely be running for re-election next season too!

I give this pilot episode an 8 out of 10 IMDB rating and I look forward to watching more of this new comedy series because we all know how hilarious politicians are when they get in front of any camera.

If you're Musding 30 Rock...

This is for you. Ted Danson is great. The show is great.

Either you get it or you don't. If you do, you'll love Mr. Mayor. If you don't, pass on by.

You can almost hear Tina Fey's voice. I think most of the cast fits in with the feel of this show.

But seriously, if 30 Rock was not your cup of tea, then you'll be wasting your time. It won't grow on you.

Pilot
Prismark1031 July 2022
I'm not sure what the mileage is in America of another multi millionaire mogul running for political office after the shenanigans of the 2021 Presidential handover.

The pilot of Mr Mayor has retired billboard billionaire Neil Bremer (Ted Danson) running for Mayor of Los Angeles on a whim after the previous mayor has a breakdown after the pandemic of 2020.

Bremer is politically inexperienced. His daughter Orly is running to be class president at her elite school. Her platform of banning plastic straws has been swiped by her father.

While Bremer's political advisors decide how to best handle Bremer. He decides to appoint longtime progressive City Council member Arpi Meskimen (Holly Hunter) as his deputy. On the basis of having a rival in his inner circle.

Maybe Mr Mayor is meant to be a satire on uber rich business people thinking they can run a city like they manage a corporation. Which is usually in a dictatorial manner.

As it is co-created by Tina Fey, it has an air of 30 Rock about it.

Despite a cast containing Danson and Hunter. It was not that satirical or sharp. The pilot was amusing enough but in a soft middle of the road type of way.

Thank you Tina Fey - refreshing 2021 entertainment

I was late to "The Good Place" enough to binge all 4 seasons. Such a blast to get Ted back on screen with his aloof delivery. Excellent ensemble.

Pay attention to the writing as each sentence has me anticipating another zinger.

Take it or leave it, but I hope you embrace it - made my day.

A Whole Episode Mocking the Handicapped
nafps7 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
You bet, let's mock handicapped as elitist, spoiled, out of touch. That's this whole episode.

Incredibly unfunny, and bigoted on Fey's part.

Terrible. Not with watching. Ted Danson should have passed on this series. We can only hope the next episodes will improve.

I didn't rate this because I missed it. Saw #3 though and it was dreadful. Looks like the reviews of this exemplify what I went thru in #3.
