Doesn't feel like American Horror Story anymore
sloncarvuca20 October 2022
Back in the day AHS used to be scary and now it feels like I'm watching some PG-13 crime drama. There are a lot of queer characters this season, which would have worked if they weren't so unlikebale. There aren't really any old AHS faces, apart from Denis O'Hare, Zachary Quinto, Billie Lourd and few other ones. I so feel bad hating the season already beacause we are only two episodes in and things might change. To be honest I just really don't know how to feel about it. Season 10 was awful and I'm kinda hoping this seasons won't be the monstrosity season ten was. I guess maybe it might be time to finally conclude the show and let it go in peace. I know that people love Ryan Murphy, but it feels like he is way to focused on other projects like The Watcher and Dahmer.

Pacing disaster
harry-3451820 October 2022
Ok so we begin this season with two main storylines and loads of characters. The issue is the writers don't know how to introduce it all at once so as a pilot it feels a bit like a failure in the introduction aspect, however it does heavily entice me for what's next. The serial killer story is off to a strong start with some gruesome murders, but there's too many characters tied into one story in turn it leads to a lot of actors getting the short end of the stick. Russel Tovey is a great addition to AHS.and shines as one of our main leads. Now our next storyline is a hidden disease story line that follows predominantly Billie Lourds Hannah, as always Lourd is a treat and it was great to see her taking a main role again after last seasons disappointment. There's a lot of potential for this story arc but I haven't seen enough to fully judge it yet.

In conclusion the ideas, cast and story is there but there's so much the script kind of collapses in on itself. However this issues should hopefully resolve as the story progresses.

Failed to engage
Alexa_12324 October 2022
The producers seem to have lost faith in the series.

If we assess this as a thriller, not horror, it was ok. The performances were good, we should not disregard this, and the story was fine. Which is why I did not give a rating lower than 5.

Regarding the story, there were no surprises whatsoever. The story was too similar to "Dahmer" but without the quality or the interesting point of view.

I do not mind the lack of gore as it is not necessary for horror or an equally good experience, I enjoyed season 7 even if it is not my favorite. However, unlike Cult, I was left staring at the screen waiting for something to happen.

Seems more like AHS than last season
NotAFakeReviewer20 October 2022
Someone is offing the homosexual community in NY.

The police don't care and the community, while worried, know they're alone.

A closeted cop is trying to work on the case without outing himself or destroying his relationship with his paper editor partner and a man has lost his roommate after going cruising.

The period its set in is very well represented and the acting is good so far.

Very excited to see where this season goes as its already showing strong writing.

It has a similar vibe to Hotel which is no bad thing. The amateur feel of Stories is gone thank God.

Let's hope it doesn't go the way of some other seasons and loses it midway through. The soundtrack is fabulous as usual.

Exciting start.

Patti LuPone...
songod-9500310 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Patti LuPone has an amazing voice. Has always had an amazing voice! Have not heard her in a while and this was a welcome revelation that she still has an amazing voice!

Ryan Murphy and Co once again wave the LGBTQIA+ banner loud and proud in AHS. However this time it is well integrated into the mystery and thrills of this new chapter; rather than being a distraction. Where it goes from here is anyone's guess, but it surely seems things are off to a good compelling start.

Anyone recall the 1980 Al Pacino movie "Cruisin"? It was about a serial killer targeting NYC's gay underground community; the "Leather Boys" as they are called in this ep. Pacino was a NYC detective who goes undercover to capture the killer.

I lived in NYC at the time in the lower east side and had a run in with these LB's and by golly the movie, and this show, got them right. However, when the reviews came out the movie was slammed for being stereotypical and doing a disservice to the gay community. Having nearly lost my manly virginity to a half dozen of these LB's I had to disagree! Good thing I ran fast... that or they did not think I was worth it!

Thus this show featuring one as a serial killer is not that far off. Unless there is some kind of twist and the creepy gay porn mogul played by Zachery Quinto is the killer!

Hard to remember, with him being the new Star Trek Spock, what an excellent villain Quinto can play! Here his dark side is on full red light display!

Horror indeed.
Tulpa_Memnon4 March 2023
It's fascinating being here some times. Film and TV criticism or analysis is often misunderstood. Preconception and/or disappointment often indicates a missed opportunity to look at themes with more than just a need for entertainment.

AHS is always political. Always socially conscious. Thank Falchuk for that!

"New York" is both of its time as a post-Trump Pandemic polemic and about a time when many of us were involved in public health and personal safety.

This may well come to be seen as AHS grown up. A real horror. Hidden for years. Feared for more. Demonised and welcomed by the gutter press and main stream media alike.

We lived through the trauma. Lost friends. It was only forty years ago. That's an adult lifespan. If you're unlucky.

It's not terrible but it's far from good.
Blanche241 November 2022
I've been a fan since the first season. I'll start with a simple fact; horror content is vast, not everyone is scared by the same subjects.

But I gotta be honest after just one episode; not engaging at all, the writing is nowhere near the quality we've known in a lot of other seasons. It's bland even though I am all for this type of horror.. discrimination, violent encounters, weird start that makes you want to know more. Well, this one has all these things but it's all poorly executed.

Season 10 had a few good moments but still was bad. (Part 2 was awful) But S11 is already worse. I know I have a small sample but it's enough for me to wanna write this review, I was hoping for way more.

I guess Murphy chose to put all his heart in Dahmer and kinda gave up on AHS.

So little promotion and it was too close to the premiere... I guess they knew they lost the real hype after last year.

I'll try the second episode just for my own curiosity but it's a rough start and even with a great cast, I think this season will be known as the worst.

I and a lot of fans of this show miss the old AHS. Changes can be good but they are for sure going the wrong way.

AHS has officially lost its spark - Murphy has too much on his plate to give this show the attention it desperately needs
kikilangmore31920 October 2022
I really wanted to like this. However after watching the first episode, it seems more on par with AHStories, which is really disappointing. It made me remember when AHS was still incredible. It started out so promising, being stylish with great performances while being original and fresh (seasons 1-3). I just keep waiting for a season to reignite the flame of the first two, and it hasn't happened.

When the episode first started, I immediately liked the vintage aesthetic it had. Unfortunately, it kind of went downhill for me after that as the acting quickly came off as unimpressive and lackluster. Many of the characters came off as unlikable, and despite being a man in the LGBTQ community, I didn't identify with any of them. The whole episode had this sleezy, uncomfortably sexual tone that felt a little bit offensive towards gay men. I felt as though it painted them as overly kinky and sexual, and gave them no complexity.

The cast isn't doing much for me so far, and I feel a little but let down by the returning actors I was excited for. Zachary Quinto plays the partner of a famous BDSM photographer, and feels like a mix of his characters from season 1 & 2, but more campy and stereotypical. Billie Lourd doesn't seem right for her role, nor does Leslie Grossman. Russell Tovey and Charlie Carver are just okay, Patti LuPone just poorly lip-synchs the whole episode.

Overall, I feel disappointed in what I've seen so far. It feels as if nothing new has been presented here, and feels more gross and uncomfortable rather than creepy/intense. I've yet to see anything except weak performances that accompany a confused story, but wish nothing more than to be proved wrong. I feel let down by the lack of care and enthusiasm I feel from AHS in the recent past, but feel that it has to do with Ryan Murphy being connected to so many projects. That being said, I can't judge the entire season based on this episode, so I will hold off on making any definitive opinions until more has been released.

This is still American Horror Story.
Parasite-B28 November 2022
It's quite sad to see that this season has already had so many negative reviews.

I can only assume that it's due to the subject of this season. People not being comfortable with the theme. Fair enough, we're all different. The world would be a very boring place if we were all the same

I'm really trying to not put out any spoilers, but it's not easy.

I know that a few people have already mentioned the movie "Cruising". This season is very, very much so influenced by that movie. And it's been done well.

It sadly does capture all of negativity, the abuse, the dismissal of the gay community during that period of time.

I'm intrigued as to where this season will be heading towards the last episodes.

bit too much like american crime story
camilosantiagox20 October 2022
Amazing first episode. A bit too much like american crime story though, not my cup of tea. But other than that (and the annoying police) very excited for this season and I can already feel it is going to be an amazing 11th season.

The character I am most intrigued for is Theo (which is very surprising since Isaac played one of the annoying teens from death valley) and what is up with bid daddy? Very intrigued for that.

Also, great seeing Zachary Quinto back in ahs, since we had not seen him since all the way back in asylum. Also, kinda wish there were more sexy scenes though

Great step up from the trash that was double feature.

Uninvolving Drivel
larryarosen20 October 2022
What is there to say? Actors phoning in their performances. Dialogue flat enough to put you to sleep for the night. Production design that features an early 80s gay NYC filtered through Disney. And absolutely not an ounce of fun or camp to be had. American Horror Story has been drifting towards its own annihilation for several seasons now, but this new season is looking to, forgive the pun, drive the nail into the proverbial coffin. I'm going to try to get through the second episode in hopes that there is some redemption to be found, but I am less than hopeful and doubt I will finish this season or come back for more in years to come. And lordy, what was with Patti Lupone?

AHS is baaaaack
wildkrissy21 October 2022
After a disappointing last season (except for Macaulay and Paulson) I am absolutely loving the first two episodes. Capturing the time so well, from the retro fuzzy look of the film to the bath houses. Cast is top notch- especially the reporter. The other reviewer has no patience. Just calm down and enjoy the twists and turns. Ever heard of a red herring? Sheesh! I was wishing Culkin would be returning- that's my only complaint. I love the eighties vibe and happy they will not be doing the split season disaster or casting models kids with zero acting skills. Last season felt like no hope but I can honestly say AHS season 11 feels like a triumphant, charming and chilling return to what we all crave. See ya next week. ;)

Big Daddy Hunts Down Gays
ZegMaarJus22 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This Episode begins with Captain Ross, he has a conversation with Tawny. Hannah is doing a investigation. Patrick tells to Gino that another dead body has been found. Sully disappeared after a night in the woods. Adam is searching for his friend Sully. Gino has been poisoned by Henry at the restaurant. Theo tells to Adam that Big Daddy died a few years ago. An Okay Episode of American Horror Story Season 11, this Season started with a weird storyline. But it was just worth a 6 as a rating for this Episode! Looking forward what this Season will bring for the entire American Horror Stories series!

Tiresome
IzzyMaeDoorite20 October 2022
You've probably heard that American Horror Story is going downhill many times. There's no consensus about when exactly things went wrong but most people tend to think this way. The brand new season proves them all right. It lacks everything that made audience fall in love with the show in the first place.

New York, the 1980's. A local gay community constantly has sex in all sorts of creepy, germ-infested places, uses drugs and occasionally gets murdered by leather guy named (bear with me) Big Daddy. Also there's a new virus on Fire Island that affects deers. That's pretty much all events in this episode. Self-explanatory, as one of the characters states.

American Horror Story used to be genuinely scary and groundbreaking with its ensemble cast and fresh takes on familiar plots. Not anymore. A show that has a killer named Big Daddy and that wastes screen time to explain what the handkerchief code is can't possibly be chilling or, at least, taken seriously. Season 11 just started but it already has the potential of becoming another nail in the show's coffin.

I completely lost interest after episode 11/4
AmoNYC9 December 2022
Everything about this season became monotonous after the 4th episode; the characters were repetitious, boring and had no depth to their personalities. As a gay man, this program attacked every homosexual stereotype imaginable. Was I insulted? No, I just found the show unoriginal & borrowing from any gimmick the writers could desperately incorporate into their dull script. I even started doing household chores while the show was on because I completely lost interest. Even though this season did not hold my undivided attention, I managed to make my way through until the final episode & by this time, I couldn't have cared less what happened to any of the characters in the end. What a shame because I've been such an AHS fan all these years. This was as bad as listening to one of your most boring college professors lectures.

S11.E1 - Doesnt Feel Like AHS But Still Entertaining [7/10]
panagiotis199330 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S11. E1) My Live Reaction / Review for American Horror Story Season 11 Episode 1 ''Something's Coming''. It's 1981, interesting. So there is someone killing gay men, I wonder why and who it is. It seems like everybody is doing drugs, that's not good. Someone put something inside Gino's drink? Overall the characters seem to be interesting but I will have to watch more episodes to better understand. Does Sam know who the killer is? I find the virus subplot to be interesting, could this mean that an epidemic is close to happening? Ok, overall this episode was a pretty good way to start the season but I also have to say that it doesn't really feel like American Horror Story. My rating is 7/10.

Scary for the Average American-AMERICAN Horror Story
Biscuit7811 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I think this is my favorite season (in addition to Season 7 about the election). These two grab me because they are more real for the average American; they're things that are much more plausible in happening during my lifetime. I wouldn't call myself a conspiracy theorist, but I definitely believe the individuals in positions of power make some horribly hurtful decisions for us. I don't know if the government was involved in developing a disease to wipe out citizens they determined to be unwanted, but we know they were directly involved in ignoring the severity of AIDS which could have prevented the rapid progression & so many deaths. This season, like Season 7, not only scares me because of what we as humans are capable of in leading to our own destruction, but they make me sad for exactly the same reason. NYC is a blatant example of how hate, ignorance, and ego will be what destroys us.

Gone off so bad it's boring
Itwassoannoying20 October 2022
Ryan Murphy productions have become incredibly predictable at this point. This season particularly comes off as a parody of everything Ryan has done prior. A bunch of conventionally attractive brown haired white muscle gays argue, have sex and get killed. It's just not interesting, he took the most boring aspect of his prior projects, milquetoast male side characters, and made them the focus of the entire show. Also I can't get past the fact that this episode in particular just feels like an exact copy of an episode of CSI or SVU, even down to the half assed careless paint-by-numbers writing. After the abysmal failure of the last season you'd think they would've tried harder than making a gay parody of a crime procedural.

I love the 80s
smokey-1309324 October 2022
I like the story so far. Reminds me of that Al Pacino movie from the 80s I can't remember the name right now. I would recommend this to everyone who watches movies and tv series for the story and for entertainment. Especially fans of 80s slasher movies and shows should give this a chance because the story is good so far. The characters are good and the actors that play them are excellent. I am a huge fan of the first 5 seasons and this seems different from those seasons. I sometimes miss those old ghost stories of the old AHS. But I'm loving this so far I only have one complaint I wasn't super scared maybe it will improve in the coming episodes.

Not AHS Anymore
make_me_think23 October 2022
I don't know what this is, but AHS has been on a downhill run for a while...hasn't been scary or even scary-ish in quite a while. I realize it's only two episodes in, but you can usually sense the season's arc in the first or second episode...and so far...all I'm relatively sure is that this will be a waste of 40 minutes per week. Good to see Z. Quinto back, but so far the most interesting part of the show so far is Kathy Pizzaz's singing. The Hamilton homage in episode 2 is just plain lame and strange and a disjointed opportunity to push the "something's coming" sleight of hand attempt. I think the show is jumped the shark and none of us realized it...the commercials are a tell.

Beware of bad comments
endjitobadja-stephanie20 October 2022
So I noticed something about the AHS series over the years is that they actually got smarter.

Some reviewers will say about the most recent seasons that they stop making sense and that they have a lot of filler and stuff, but I think the general issue is that as the biggest percentage of viewers have become younger and younger, the historical references in the series stop making sense for them and that's where the confusion starts.

I noticed that Ryan Murphy actually took the time to present us with more human hers rather than fantastical ones. It's been obvious ever since Roanoke, but more evidently in Cult. Real horror is the one you can find just outside your windows.

Also, I love how they keep in with the themes of urban legends and conspiracy theories, as the show started, which are still present in season 10, but as well as in season 11. Love it! Can't wait to see more.

Actors are getting worse
angelacortez7620 October 2022
From the original season, this show has had a steady decline with few peaks. I loved Apocalypse but it plummeted again afterwards. This current season has the worst cast. Sandra Bernhard has to be the worst actress I've ever seen. She looks like she's reading her lines from cards in the background. I don't know why they invited her back, other than the gay aspect. We began with such an amazing cast (Jessica Lange, Angela Basset, Evan Peters) and now we're left with boring Bernhard.

The plots are becoming lazy and repetitive and if you continuously change out the main cast, your fan base is going to drop. I'm not impressed by this new season at al.

Cruising 2.0
akira-hideyo22 October 2022
Loosely deja vu but from this opening episode vibe, and guessing where it's going, seems like they're rebooting the focus on the NYC gay killings of the early 1980s. The original movie then starred, Al Pacino and Paul Sorvino. Despite the masterful story retelling of true crime events within the gay community, the movie was heavily picketed for being too real too soon too close for comfort. Sadly, the masterpiece movie bombed for all the wrong reasons (homophobia, paranoia, denial) but truth be told, it secretly resonated deeply with the fringe community where all the murders were happening. Even the great masterclass William Friedkin, behind iconic The Exorcist, couldn't shift Cruising into the same mega hit box office that it should have been deserving of. It was so bad that Al Pacino never wanted to be associated with the movie and dropped the titular honor from his acting resume. Guess the demons of human nature is far more elusive than those that goes bump in the night. Let's see how AHS handle this classic for TV adaption in the gaylore universe. Having veterans Russell Tovey and Sandra Bernhard fronting this morbid revisit is a good start.

RIP American horror story
Mr_MickyKnox17 November 2022
After the abysmal season 10, i had hoped that ahs would pull itself together and get back on track, well i was wrong . It's got the same problems that blighted season 10, mostly Terrible characters , Terrible acting from most of the newcomers, and just plain boring. It just doesn't make me want to watch it anymore, especially with this subject matter and characters , i can see that putting a lot of people off . I just want it back to how it was from season 1 to 9, its like watching a completely different show. I also notice a lot of dodgy looking 10 star reviews on here that are obviously from public restroom fanboys that need to get help !

Ode to Cruisin'...the World I Lived In
setgetsiin20 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Instantly I recognized the timeline; I asked, "Is this supposed to be the late 70s?" based on the trash pileups, which would be the Garbage Strike. I guess I was off by a couple of years, when later it was 1981.

Also, before anyone opened a suitcase, I had felt the Cruisin vibes. Aaah, then I started to think of Christopher Street, what lovely memories. I suppose the bandanna (not handkerchief, get it right, honey) system is still in full effect or making a comeback. It's been a while.

Most of the gay community I knew were waiters in the best restaurants in The City, and thru them was found the best connection for the best 'caine around--straight out of Columbia. I remember hosting dinner parties with my sister for this lovely couple (yes, who were also gay).

A word about the caine for those with money: It wouldn't make you run to the toilet nor would it burn your nose nor make you shake your head like a dog. That would be crank (aka meth). Good caine was smooth sailing, perhaps a stroll to the bathroom, and when you were done at the end of your "evening" which was typically after sunrise, you are to run water down the drain, else it WOULD eat a hole thru the septum...too much of a good thing IS bad, but not the bad they are displaying here. Those people need a better dealer. Hahaha.

So as far as the show is going, I'm thinking they are nailing it 9 outta 10 so far. And I am eternal grateful. This old butterfly is now a dusty tattered moth, but the memories oh the memories. At least before AIDS ruined every effing thing in that part of my--and millions of others'--life/lives.

A huge THANK YOU to all the people who made this theme possible. Sure, it's about horror and mayhem--but that part is for cinematic value. I haven't been this happy with AHS for a while now, but this homage to HOME for so many of us...

Wonderful to see Zachary Quinto back in the AHS saddle. I'm really excited about this season. All the boys I follow seem to be in this episode.
