A real snooze
wbsimsjr-3240523 September 2023
After a few months of anticipation We Just couldn't wait for this season to start. The episode started and a few minutes later I was nodding off. Maybe they should have done that 2 episode release for this one, because this just can't be from the creators that brought the earlier seasons. It seemed pretty amateur. I just didn't get the normal spooky, creepy moodiness. Does someone think just filming every scene in low light equates moody? For me, the atmosphere really makes everything else shine in the stories, so perhaps this story doesn't need the atmos normally seen and the story will become a little clearer. So hopefully epi 2 will setup whats to come a little better...

Underwhelming Performances
virematthew21 September 2023
This season premiere of AHS may have the most underwhelming performances of any episode I've seen. The best part of it was Kim Kardashian's surprisingly "decent" acting. I really don't understand why they cast Emma Roberts as the central character. Her acting has never been great and she does NOT fit the character. Not to mention her history of being difficult to work with. I really hope this season picks up. If Brad and Ryan are going to continue this show, they need to do something special because the interest of the fans I know has been fading. This is typical of long-running shows though. Sarah and Evan have moved on and it really hurts the show. I think Brad and Ryan need to take their time with the next season to give fans something really special. Don't rush it if it's going to feel lackluster. A writer should never force a release just for the sake of releasing something.

Off to a good start
verrucktcarlos26 September 2023
American Horror Story has not been the same for some time now. Last two seasons were terrible. But this one at least, so far, is making me care for the characters.

Emma Roberts is always such a delight to see, I'm really rooting for her. I dont mind Kim Kardashian, I think the fact alone she's there makes it very campy, which is a disctinct characteristic of american horror story.

However, at some point, AHS took a departure in terms of production quality. There used to be a sense of grandiosity and lavishness in previous seasons. Like Coven, Freakshow, Asylum, Hotel, they had this amazing settings, great camera work and editing, and now, since season 10, AHS now looks like a lifetime movie.

But I quite enjoyed the episode, looking forward to seeing what happens.

Kim Kardashian Has No Business on American Horror Story
bujuadorned22 September 2023
I'm sorry what happened to the incredible ensemble casts with actually talented and seasoned actors?

Where's Jessica Lange Where's Kathy Bates Where's Sarah Paulson Where's Angela Basset Where's Evan peters

This show used to have a fantastic cast now's it's just a joke and everything has gone down hill.

The only two cast worthy here are Emma Robert's and Dennis O'hare. Kim you have no business on TV in any fashion or style. Nope and especially not something as special as what American Horror Story used to be.

Best to Worst

1. Asylum (S2) 2. 1984 (S9) 3. Roanoke (S6) 4. Cult (S7) 5. Freak Show (S4) 6. Murder House (S1) 7. Coven (S3) 8. Hotel (S5) 9. Apocalypse (S8) 10. N. Y. C. (S11) 11. Double Feature (S10) 12. Delicate (S12)

Good start, but
riverotter6821 September 2023
This season is off to a good start. More creep and psychological intrigue than gore, but every time Kim Kardashian was on the screen, I cringed. She's not bad, but not good either. I kept thinking there's some real actress out there needing a big break, and instead they give the role to a celebutante. Episode is great at leaving me in suspense.

Emma Roberts is very good in this, and was a smart choice for the lead. Matt Czuchry is not bad as the male lead. No other character had enough screen time to see how they are. Also seems this season will skip some of the tropes of the previous seasons.

Just terrible
mcanony25 September 2023
Everything is wrong. The performances are terrible. The direction is terrible. The camera shots are a disaster. It doesn't have the spirit of the series and looks like a TV movie or a B-movie. The production has lowered the budget and it really shows.

The story is not interesting and does not have the ingredients of the genre. It really seems like the director has never seen a horror movie. Emma Roberts in the lead role is a flop. Nothing remains organic, it is impossible to believe anything that happens to the character. She truly looks like a beginner, although she is not. Not to mention the lousy and insipid Kim Kardashian acting. Was there a need? The only redeeming feature of the episode is the brief appearance of Denis O'Hare, who has accustomed us to impeccable performances.

It feels like no one wants to do this season.

It's a shame to destroy a franchise like this.

a shocking surprise to many, but we need to talk about IT...
ETHIRL22 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Now, I understand that this review is just going to get more eye rolls than most of the reviews on here saying it was a terrible episode and that's fine, however, as someone who has grown up with American horror story and been able to fully immerse myself, this episode is a homage to old, tried and tested formulas that Ryan Murphy knows any loves, and to me, i'm bored. I don't need another pregnancy Ryan!

Let's talk the story line. We meet Anna, the charter delivery by Emma Roberts is a close resemblance to her character in "AHS: 1984" she portrays the role of a woman who has tried, and tried to create life after years of not wanting her body to do what she wants it to do. We meet her partner who is as supportive as possible, haunted by the memories of his ex wife and her death. Ryan, where was this character development these last few seasons? I felt connected to their story. I didn't even want it to turn into horror, was genuinely excited and hoped the pregnancy would be a success... and its leaving me wanting to know more (which contradicts what I had to say earlier, but c'mon, this was believable) but during this we are teased by Cara Delevigne's character illusively moving around New York and we meet Miss Preecher, who's character we get to know on a much too personal level at the end of the episode.

Now, we meet Kim Kardashian in the picture. I know, what is she doing here? How dare she! Calm down. It really isn't that big of a deal, actually, I love it. Luckily I haven't had to opportunity to watch reality tv shows and don't keep up with them (excuse the pun!) but we all know who she is. Kim Kardashian actually gave us something, nothing spectacular, nothing to gasp over, but to fill a void of missing faces from seasons past, I welcome it. However, Ryan, I would have loved to see you push Kim on our first viewing, her character feels like a PR manager, and im pretty sure she has one, so im hoping we see more challenging scenes for her, im not going to slate her, most people were upset when lady gaga joined and she was a hit and one episode I just don't think is fair to tell her she has no place for to be in the show (compared to her co-star Emma Roberts past and present controversies)

the storyline is promising, the cast hasn't felt this intimate yet a huge stop on the world they live in since "AHS: murder house" will I be waiting for next week? Yes! Do I have high hopes? Yes! But standards have dropped, so im hoping this is the revival that we needed!

Blessed Day!

Go away Kim
sara-kubetin23 September 2023
Leave us alone Kim Kardashian. Stop ruining the things that I love. I'm just tryna mind my own business watching my kitschy, spooky, horror shows (not to be confused with your horror show that's been on the air multiple decades too long...) this is the dying breath of AHS. It's unwatchable for OG fans. This show used to have substance and nuance, and make you long for the next episode to be released. I remember when AHS Roanoke hadn't been officially "revealed" yet, and we got all kinds of teaser trailers and artwork and hype, and it actually delivered! I hated AHS 1984. I enjoyed the first story of AHS double feature, but couldn't bring myself to finish the second half (even though I have tried so many times). I attempted AHS NYC ... watched the first two episodes, and just died a little inside midway through ep 3. Saw on social media that Kim Kardashian would be in season 12.... And I tried to watch... but AHS is just absolutely insufferable now. This is an insult to the Supreme, and to the covenant, and quite frankly to Jessica Lange. And Sarah Paulson. And Lily Rabe. And HBIC, the woman I wish I could be when I grow up, queen Angela Bassett. Ryan Murphy ... please stop.

Maybe I picked the wrong episode to leave a review on?
eighmii16 October 2023
It legitimately feel like everyone reviewing here is judging the show based on how they feel about Kim Kardashian. She's essentially just playing herself- with a bit of her mom, so it's really not a reach for her to have to reach far in the depths of her soul to find this character. I actually, personally think she's doing a decent job.

Emmy-winning performance? No.

Is this as great as the early seasons? No.

Does it have a bunch of legendary AHS actors? No.

But to judge the whole season of episode 1 and a distaste for Kim just isn't fair. It took me a while to 'get into' the last season but I've gotten into this one faster. Opinions may differ but this isn't objectively bad in any way. Who knows- I may feel differently once the season concludes, but I'm currently at episode 4 and it's entertaining and ramping up.

This season is more of a horror-mystery rather than straight horror but that's what makes it fun and engaging.

It's all over due to bad casting
gman197826 September 2023
Started to watch in the hope things had improved from the previous series, sadly the decline continues with terrible casting, Kim K has no place in a program like AHS.l (or in TV, radio, print... anything really)

There used to be an awesome cast and great storyline, what happened, scraping the barrel.

Unfortunately this casting of the pathetic reality tv personality makes feel physically sick, we should not be advocating for these talentless, egomaniacal, talentless trash. - fire the casting director!

AHS, you are dead to me now. - which is sad after AHS1984 redeemed you somewhat.

Shane! Shane! Shane!

Finally!
babyychelso22 September 2023
We all know the past few seasons of AHS have been trash, especially whatever the heck they were trying to do with the alien season (seriously, why?) BUT this is the most promising first episode since Apocalypse. I'm sure there are going to be a lot of low ratings and trash talk just because of Kim Kardashian, but unless you just can't stand the sight of her face she's really not that bad of an actress. The part she's playing is believable and fits her well. Emma Roberts is wonderful as always. The story line is intriguing and psychological. Unless this just takes a weird turn (again-like the stupid alien season) it seems like this will be the best season in a long while! Keeping my fingers crossed!

I want More Kim Surprisingly!
kendylmccray22 September 2023
We will see where this road leads but it's refreshing to see Kim K not in reality. It's her time to try something new and I would want her in my script to for anything stylized. I hope hope she explores her scripts further and does more acting. She's matured and I want more of her.

I hate spiders. So yeah.

But we are back on American Horror Story track. Let's go! Horror fan ready for more!!

Emma! Get it! I want more.

Let's stick to Scary, creepy stories. Let's do some style. Let's see the directors, writers and actors shine again! Let's have nightmares and cringe. But no Spiders!! Lol. No spiders again please. Ok I'm done unless IMDb says I need more words.

Ruined by a Kardashian
david-344428 September 2023
I love AHS. I've watched every episode up until now. I want to love this season because Emma Roberts and Matt Czuchry are favorites of mine. This episode was completely ruined by Kim K. She's awful. She can't act. She looks like she's made out of plastic. I guess the "horror" this season is having to look at what she's done to her face - she's hideous. The insecurity and self-hatred she must have to have butchered herself like that is truly pathetic. Her presence makes me not want to watch, so I've removed this show from my DVR. I'm not rewarding Ryan Murphy with ad revenue for destroying a once-favorite show. If there's a season 13 - with REAL actors like Frances Conroy or Adina Porter instead of horrible stunt-casting - I'll come back. Until then, no thank you.

Might have been an 8 or 9 ...
ddaqqvas29 September 2023
AHS has been a series to which I have looked forward every year. The only season with which I was truly disappointed was last year's outing. I got through the first episode, couldn't make it through the second and never came back.

This year, the opening episode was much better, although not as good as some. My favorites are Murder House, Coven, Apocalypse, Asylum, Hotel, and Roanoke, in that order. Cult, 1984 and Double feature were solid, but left me feeling somewhat "meh." Now, I'm not a carnival or circus type person, so I didn't enjoy Freak Show much at all, but I did get through it. NYC could not keep my attention, even with Zachary Quinto (a brilliant actor), which is actually saying quite a bit. It's kinda the way even the prolific Sean Connery couldn't save Highlander 2: The Quickening.

Anyway, landline that said, we are off to a much better start in season 12. I agree with others who have said it's less gore-horror and more of the psychological turns that terrify, which is to say it leans more to the intelligent type of horror.

HOWEVER, I wholeheartedly agree with those who have decried the very existence of a Kardashian in the cast, and frankly, the worst one. Calling Kim Kardashian's performance "wooden" is an insult to so-called wooden actors everywhere. Frankly, I've seen better acting in 90's "adult" films. Now I know it's scripted, but it would not surprise me to find she peppers her everyday speech with the words "literal" and "literally" like her character does, and is the epitome of grammatical ignorance. Kardashian, as usual, is nice to look at, but watching her perform, listening to her near-monotone lines (using the word "literally" as if it were a bloody comma) and trying to decide if she's had too much Botox or if she is actually that lacking in expressions is just plain painful.

You earned this episode a 7, Kim K. Stick to reality TV.

Overexplaining everything when they really don't have to.
tomanc22 September 2023
This episode had too much clumsy and unnecessary exposition dumping. That makes for unnatural and fake-sounding dialogue, so, a terrible script.

Otherwise, the story seems like it will be interesting and the acting is fine.

So far it looks like a Ryanification of Rosemary's baby, which will probably be a lot of fun. Emma Roberts is always fun. That is a hell of an apartment they live in, too. It's kind of hard to empathize with billionaires like this couple.

The previous season, NYC, was very meaningful and serious. I appreciated the effort and the limb that they boldly crawled out on with that one. This is back to glitzy, plastic form, but will at least be fun.

Hopefully they got all the expo out of the way in this one and future episodes won't be so clunky.

Emma steal the show!!!!
horrorules25 April 2024
I liked this twelfth season, I found it much more valid than the previous one, which frankly I found boring, not terrible, but still barely watchable.

Delicate is a sort of 2.0 version of Rosemary's Baby, and in fact, especially in one scene, there is no shortage of homages.

The plot is interesting, and fortunately, more linear than usual, some seasons had too many things in them, too many subplots, but this one is very linear and that's a good thing.

But the best thing of this season is the very good and charming Emma Roberts, who once again shows everyone how much she is a fabulous scream queen and above all how much better and more beautiful she is than the overrated and snobbish Aunt Julia. Emma literally steals the show and holds everything on her shoulders, the character of Anna is so strong, tragic and sweet at the same time, a character that stays with you. Emma you are fabulous.

Sore point is Kim Kardashian, really terrible, mono-expressive and above all her character doesn't have the slightest bite.

14 minutes in and I'm not sure if I'm going to finish this episode
missjrovers26 October 2023
I am just a big AHS fan, I love the crazyness they produce, but when I read that Kim Kardashian was joining the show, I really wanted to skip this season.. But I'm a softy and I do love the show immensly and I am curious about the plot and I shouldn't judge someone I don't know. BUT now as I'm watching, this woman appears on the screen and talks and it is annoying and SO SO bad. It's not even acting.. I don't know how many takes they did, but if this was the best take, I'm worried.. I know.. well actually HOPE she won't be on screen too much. But I worry.. do I press play? It's not even Halloween but I'm already scared, the horror. Why did they do this? Why do we deserve this punishment?

why are ppl trying to find a problem?
qrrdfkw23 September 2023
This episode was GREAT def excited for next week. We finally got emma back, kims acting was good, and anyone who is saying it wasnt is simply not correct, dont compare kim to the death valley cast. The character is perfect for her, ppl hating just because of her. I know ppl are tired of the pregnancy storyline, but to me this is different, this szn is themed around it. In other szns it was just a part of the plot, in some times major ways, but never the "main" focus of the szn. What if ryans setting this up for another antichrist baby and next szn the witches come back for another crossover? Would love to see it!!!

Slow, boring
ikewulf23 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was hesitant to watch this season at all due to the whole "scab" issue with the current writers/actors strikes, but I have really enjoyed AHS so much in the past that I decided I would go ahead and watch and give it a fair shake.

Much of the acting felt very dull and forced in this episode. Since it was from primary characters, we're going to have to deal with the sub-par acting being prominent this whole season. As low quality as some of the acting was, that isn't even the biggest issue.

The story is incredibly dull. It didn't grab me at all. It was so slow and boring I struggled to even keep my eyes open to properly watch this episode. Maybe the theme of miscarriage and zygotes or whatever plays differently to women who have been through infertility issues. I haven't been through that, and I imagine over half the audience (like men) will not have been through pregnancy issues either. If "horror" is so boring it makes you fall asleep, it's not hitting the right notes.

I may give this season a few more episodes to hook me, but if they're as much of a boring slog as this first episode, I'm probably going to give this season a pass. If I want to be bored to death by ultrasound pictures and people forgetting to refrigerate their meds, I'm sure I don't need to watch AHS for that.

We are back
harry-3451824 September 2023
American horror story delicate gets off to a solid start filled with amazing cinematography, really cool set design and a killer performance from Kim Kardashian and Emma roberts. There is a lot of ground laying this episode and it's very obvious but the writing as a whole is a lot stronger here than the past two ahs seasons. This is by far one of the best season premieres AHS has had in a while and this season is full of promise the horror is subtle but well weaved into the story, this episode as a whole was more creepy that anything in America horror story NYC. That being said if this season is going to continue to be a slow burn I worry if it will be able to maintain its viewership but overall a really solid start.

Promising Start. But horrible casting
lizt-0167422 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm sorry but I have to get this out of the way Kim Kardashian? I did not know she was going to be featured in this season and it looks like she will be in multiple episodes if not all. She's not an actress and it shows. I cringed every time she showed up on screen. I have no hate towards Kim but her trying to stay relative is just sad. I would have LOVED to see Leslie Grossman playing the role that Kim is playing. Emma Roberts does a great job and I was so happy to see Denis O'Hare in the first episode, I truly hope he sticks around for the rest of the season. Looks like a promising start sadly AHS producers dropped the ball when it came to casting Kim.

kelleynicole-7565121 September 2023
Kim's acting really isn't that good. Hearing her say, "Oh my GAWD!" like they do on their show kind of ruins it for me. I'll give it a chance to get better, but I also have no problem not finishing a season. I didn't care much for last season and abandoned it halfway through. Maybe this show has been running for too long and they're just out of ideas. I was really disappointed when I found out she was going to be in it this season. I even debated not watching it. It's a shame the Red Tide season was cut short. That one really had potential! It felt more like the earlier seasons. Good luck to everyone watching this season!

It's a Real Horror Alright
UltraMaximal24 September 2023
Just like nothing to do with the Kartrashians, it is a real trainwreck of vapidness and silliness. I will not be able to watch the rest of this or support the series as long as they have these talentless hacks on just to promote their empty and ego driven empire. It's a shame really. I use to love these series and the great stories. But, with his newest dive into pop culture trash they have really lowered themselves to less writing and drive to more flash, plastic and drivel.

I would suggest to everyone to just bypass this all togther because it is not going to get any better or improve in its quality what so ever.

/whatever AHS.
