I am speechless
GomezAddams66627 April 2022
This episode was by far one of the best stories Marvel Studios has ever told.

The acting was fantastic as usual, you would be forgiven to think Marc and Steven are played by two different actors, Oscar Isaac is that good.

But the story itself was magnificent, the techniques they used on this episode were very effective in conveying the emotions they wanted the audience to feel.

This is so far the best episode this season, I would be amazed if the finale outdoes it.

Devastating
tristan_1927 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Asylum is the best MCU episode so far, delivering surprising revelations and shining light on Marc's past and upbringing.

It acts very much like WandaVision's 'Previously On', which is another pitch perfect and tragic episode. Both episodes will make you look back at the whole series with a different perspective.

RIP Steven. What a legend. Marc's scales are balanced now, and his head is probably in the absolute right place to face Harrow and Ammit.

Everyone involved in this show gave us a reason to care for the characters, and boy do we care greatly already. Marc's past is deeply haunted. He didn't know and made a mistake as a kid, bringing his brother into a cave, and his mother is just awful. Poor guy. It just bring the tragedy of losing Steven even higher. Perfect harmony was found, at last.

Do I need to mention the cinematography and stakes ? All is beautiful and never do you feel the lack of stakes in this show. Everything that has been explained makes sense and impacts the viewer in a massive way. It is truly a feat of television, and will be remembered forever.

AMAZING
aboalhyjaa27 April 2022
Wow, im totally speechless. Oscar Isaac and Mohamed Diab took a not very known marvel character and made it one of the best stories in marvel universe and gave it depth all that and we still haven't watched the finale!

I've watched over 200 tv shows. More than 5500 tv episodes and i can say this is one of the best and definitely one of my favorites.

I believe Oscar must win the Amy for his performance as Mark/Steven/Moon Knight. And Mohammed Diab did amazing job too. And lets not forget the amazing soundtracks and background music choices by Hesham Nazih!

What a trip!!

This episode is my favorite thus far! Marc and Steven travel through their memories, which gives us their origin story....and OH MY GOD! It was creative, emotional and dark at times! I hope you can enjoy this episode without getting spoiled cause there is a lot of crazy moments! I have no Idea how the final episode will pan out!

Completely Unexpected
lesterholt27 April 2022
Marvel has been swinging and missing lately but this episode brought us back to the incredible heights it can achieve. They gave us a reason to CARE about this character. They gave us something to relate to. Absolutely brilliant idea to use such a unique plot device to unravel Marc's backstory. I will anticipate any upcoming Moon Knight show/movie because of this episode alone. Awesome.

Show, don't tell
TheStorytellingCritic27 April 2022
This whole episode was a masterclass on show don't tell. Could have done an exposition dump of dialogue or just done infrequent flashbacks but this gives us the background of Marc and consistently puts the audience in the shoes of Steven in all the discoveries he makes about himself. Thats not just for this episode, but for every episode prior its done this, keeping the mystery throughout the whole show. But this ep is a whole character ep.

It's difficult to say what the next ep will bring as this mystery just got more mind bending but does favour to hyping us up for the final ep. However, this ep didn't do much to progress the narrative but did a lot to increase our investment and understanding of the protagonist and kudos to the showrunners, I would have never thought Disney's MCU would tackle the themes this episode did in such a head on way.

On top of that, this is definitely the ep that Oscar Isaac shines the most, and I can't imagine the next episode will top this one for acting only because this was such a character driven episode.

We can now also see why the CGI was a bit pants in earlier eps because this episode was CGI heavy and it looked decent enough to not take away from any of the scenes.

Overall, this ep is a great addition to this show and definitely increases respect for Marvel. Bring on the finale.

P. S. I hope the next ep isn't a CGI heavy battle, hoping this ep was the ep with the most CGI.

This is all your fault!
bosporan27 April 2022
Resumes binary bodied, with Taweret in the surreal sanctum, the perfect god/setting combination to respectfully explore the Marc/Steven origins story.

Oscar Isaac renders a magnum opus, painting a full emotional palette onto a bizarre monologue/dialogue canvas. He portrays both men using distinct, fine brushstrokes, depicting a bold poster-art image of each avatar and their ambiguous affinity.

Again Moon Knight self-eclipses, a celestial luminescence in the night sky.

Best Episode so Far
panoskonidis27 April 2022
I was literally on the edge of my sit for the whole episode. This particular one was the most emotional out of the first 5 episodes. I didn't want the episode to end. Really, REALLY, hyped for the finale. Easy 10/10 for this one.

The Scales Are Balanced Now
MamadNobari9727 April 2022
A very visually stunning and amazingly acted episode. I guess most of the visual effects went to this episode and that hippo lady and they gave like 20 bucks to the VFX team to make that chase scene in the first episode.

This penultimate episode, much like the penultimate episode of WandaVision takes us to the childhood and past life of our protagonist through their memories, and just like Wanda's, Marc's childhood and origin are as tragic and depressing as it gets.

I really like this introspection episode of our character(s) as we get to know who really Marc and Steven are, which one is the original, and the reason Marc joined the military and became Moon Knight.

Oscar Isaac and Oscar Isaac have been phenomenal in every episode so far, but I think this is their best performance yet. Of course, there are other actors in here too but the majority of the episode revolves around this character. (I guess you can say that about all the other episodes too, but this one has more screen-time for Oscar)

Aside from all of it's good parts and great acting though, I kinda wanted a little bit more from the memories and "we're doing flashbacks but we call it a memory recalling session so it doesn't seem like a flashback even though it's totally flashback", you know what I mean? I wanted to see more memories, and also more from the memories they showed and didn't show the whole thing.

And there's also another thing about the third alter that bothered me but I can't say anything about it without spoiling it, so there's that too.

The thing that happened at the end was very surprising too. I'd be way more surprised if it's permanent, because it's a good character development in my opinion, but I won't be shocked if they don't reverse it in the next episode.

I also gotta mention again, that these episodes feel like they need 3 or 4 episodes each to truly use their material's potential and not cram everything in just 45 minutes, you know what I mean? Like the whole psych ward thing could've been a whole half-a-season story arc but we get only one episode, or the whole Marc's past could've been a season in itself, but Disney says only 6 episodes so they have to cram everything they have into it. So I would've been more happy if they did more things with the memories, but the episode is still great and the writers and directors did a good job with the time and episode limit they were given.

Overall, a really well-paced, well-acted, well-written, and visually stunning episode and a deeper look inside Marc Spector's mind. This character and his story had a really big potential for more episodes and more seasons, but it is fine what they've done with the 6-episode limit they had to work with.

You do not need to see that. You were not meant to see that. That's the whole point of you.
Tastentier28 April 2022
And there it was, summed up in one line. The single best, most harrowing portrayal of mental health struggles and their traumatic origins in the history of serial television. I usually have a profound dislike for "journey into the mind" episodes that serve as an all too convient deux ex machina or simply as filler, but this wasn't that. This was something else entirely, with an Oscar-worthy performance by its namesake Mr. Isaac.

Great acting, emotional but sets up an overloaded finale
kj-3675727 April 2022
First things first. Yes Oscar Issac's performance is amazing and going back through Mark's memories were quite emotional.

Unfortunately this show is on a 6 episode runtime, and its a limited release series so no season 2, and this episode basically halted the plot.

There is so much left for the finale after this episode I fear the finale is set up to fail. We've hit a point with the show if you take away Issac's acting, I think this series would be unwatchable with how they handle the plot.

What did I even watch?
rockdude-680457 May 2022
Look I'm going to be real, the series up to this point has been alright for me. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. However, I finished this episode and truly left it thinking "what just happened?". It went like ten layers deeper into chaos, confusion, and spontaneous twist that just left me lost. This was the tipping point episode of the series that I feel started the downward motion for my enjoyment. Everyone else on here seems to love this episode, but I can confidently say I did not.

Oscar Isaac is incredible
awonddy-0721627 April 2022
Oscar Isaac gave an Oscar worthy performance, if this was a movie... I don't consider an Emmy as a worthy award like an Oscar.

Roller coaster of emotions in this episode.

I'm not crying you're crying
Trey_Trebuchet29 April 2022
One of the more depressing pieces of the MCU, and also one of their very best. It's insane how well done Marvel's character/grief centered movies and episodes have been.

I think the way this episode was directed and written and plotted was clever and accessible. It got dark and sad and all of the good stuff I want from television. The very last scene was a real shocker... I loved that.

I also really like the horror elements this show has to offer. Nothing too terrifying for kids, but definitely unsettling enough for adults.

Oscar Isaac delivers his best performance in the whole show here. He's a fabulous performer and I'm super stoked to see whatever he has coming out this year, and hopefully another project with this character.

Great, great stuff.

This episode deserved it's own review.

Oscar Isaac gave an amazing perfomance and the MCU finally gave depth and seriousness to one of it's characters.

Truly impressive work.

A much needed fill in episode with a tragic back story
harry-3451827 April 2022
This episode felt like the 8th episode of wandavision to me. The acting, the writing and the story were so good in this episode I was nearly in tears over how tragic it was. Oscar issac does a brilliant job making both Marc and Steven feel like two distinct characters, her sold every scene so well. Ethan hawke as always does a brilliant job.

Oscar Isaac's acting alone deserves a 10
terrylarosa28 April 2022
What an amazing, superlative episode. Fantastic origin story and those effects.......wow. Flawless. Disney has practically hit a home run with all its series minus the boring, nothing happening Loki. I'm hoping that all that psych ward nonsense is all in his mind because that's a storyline I'm not enamored with. But other than that this is great stuff.

Right in the feels
DrKennyKeps27 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Well, this was really an emotional episode.

I felt hit in the feels on several occasions.

At first when Marc's brother died, and then on all the birthday celebrations, and how his mother behaved and her blaming Marc.

Seeing that first transition into Steven was very well made by that kid actor.

Then Steven learning about the mothers death, and that whole funeral transition in the middle of the street.

Wow, wow, wow.

9/10 for me, really looking forward to next week.

The Tragedy of Moon Knight
cthirlby27 April 2022
This episode is one which will tug on your heart strings as it shows how the fractured mind with this character was created and the brutality and sadness of it all. We take a look into the memories of the characters showing how this saddening story begins. Bravo marvel for not making any jokes this episode, this condition is not to be joked around with.

Good but boring
rutger-845-6373971 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It was a good episode, but entertaining? It felt like a needed filler to explain the backstory and you just had to sit through it. It could have been done in one shot, saying Steven was the made up personality to deal with his mother and other things.

When I read the reviews and the extreme worshipping of Isaac I can't rub of the feeling that there is some review bombing going on (the reviews are just way over the top).

Off course.
justin-s-benn27 April 2022
To be frank, I'm no longer sure what show I'm watching any more. Like some of the characters, the narrative is skeletal and so quickly sketched, you have little time to engage with any of it and draw meaning.

So what we have instead is a series of rapid-fire scenes that barely make sense in a rush to cement a backstory - but in the middle of another narrative that has only just begun to be develop. And we have one more episode left?

Just WOOOW! This episodes is packed with all the questions we've been carrying for 4 weeks; the comedy in this ep is few and light.

You don't know weather to scream, cry or shout from the shocking moments & facts slamming on your brain.

You'll not get bored for a moment.
