Captured it well!
rostamir5 August 2020
The story is awesome and entertaining (Aaron Dembski-Bowden) ; The voice is perfectly narrated (Jonathan Keeble) ; and finally Richard Boylan has done a fantastic job doing this 13 episode mini-series. Eventually cut into a 150 minutes movie!

Fantastic and Thrilling
garrettbell-1151029 June 2021
I'm amazed at what they managed to do here! It really told a interesting story for what its like for a Space Marine and the life people live in that universe. It is extremely well done. I would love to see what this group could do with some major funding!! Well done guys I'm super impressed, I dont usually write reviews but people need to see what an amazing creation this is!

psychology, memory, and explosions!!
yateskevin8 August 2021
Very few times does the "method" of delivering a visual scene directly impact the mood and status of the protagonist. During mundane daily activity the video feed is black and white, splotchy, and severely amateurish despite the fact that it retains its artistic integrity. From there however, the film itself.. slowly molds itself into a completely different creature as you get closer and closer to actual combat, gaining colors, blurring edges become crisp, the attenuation giving way to vivid and utterly chilling detail. The story is bland if not straight forward, people coming to grips with being assigned a suicide mission and coming to their own terms with it, however you don't really care, having been lost inside this whole new world of Grim-Dark.....

Dark and beautiful
jasonqog26 June 2021
A dark and beautifully made movie, so unrealistic and and the same time disturbingly relateable.

At the end I could not help but to silently whisper "For the Emperor"

An amazing Fanfilm
joachimthome-4391730 June 2021
Helsreach might not be for everyone but for fans and followers of the 40k universe it is a must watch.

The style and quality must be regarded in the context of being a fanmade project. But the atmosphere and art is great and transmits a gripping story of heroism and sacrifice.

Sometimes There is Only Dark

This movie has every aspect of a 40K defence. It has chapter and Astartes in-fighting. The orks are all killy, then you get the Blessed Sisters, and Invigulata on top. The Titan sound is worthy here. Such a great telling of a great story. I loved Astartes, but I've watched this 2 hour movie 4 times and my wife keeps telling me to stop MAKING NOISE. WAAAARRGH.

Brilliant fan made movie. I'm not necessarily a fan or familiar of the Warhammer universe. Nevertheless really enjoyed the movie.

This is the grim dark future where there is only war. Fan made film at its finest, shame it will be one of the last of it's kind.

An absolute Masterpiece.

Warning: Spoilers
I came across this film by chance on YouTube, after finishing it over 2 days, I can honestly say it is by far the best warhammer 40k film out. It is interesting how the quality of animation and 'graphics' get better as the production develops, leading me to think that it was made over the course of a very long time. None the less, the art style and animation is perfect, obviously if it was touched up I wouldn't complain but still, amazing.

The script and voice acting though, that TOTALLY blew me away, amazing work in that department, the story telling too, brilliant.

(Getting a little lore nerdy here and no offense meant by it, but the only thing that bugged me was when the Salamanders showed up and the colouring of their skin was not as I remember in novels or other pictures, like a coal jet black. Any way, the care for human life was spot on.)

Andre deserves his own comedy series too, that really had me laughing.

I was overall upset when it had finished, even though it is 2 and a half hours of pure magic on screen, I could have easily sat another 2 haha. It will be some feet to top a film like this, massive props to the writer, director and all the voice actors!

Great 40k Story
psexton-080473 June 2023
Great story hooked me into the 40k Universe. Dont know how I found it but I couldnt put it down until it was over at around 5am. I would reccomend this to anyone you don't have to know anything about warhammer 40k to appriciate this at all.

The film named Helsreach, was created by the Canadian director "Richard Boylan". It is from the same novel written by "Aaron Dembski Bowden" and narrated by "Jonathan Keeble" in the audio book. Some other voice actors also joined to fill in other roles as R. Boylan made the series through the 3 years of its production.

Originally Helsreach is a 13 episode min-series, released on you-tube from 201.

One of the best W40K stories. Captures the story very close to the original and gives a fantastic feeling of the universe.

this is for Oscar

All Hollywood movies in last few years can cover in shame when compared to this brilliant master piece. This is true gem that is unfortunately underrated and brings us beautiful story about humanity in the far future that we can't see in any high budget productions. Long live the Empire, all hail the God Emperor and his angels he sent us to fight for humanity, mighty Astartes!

Great introduction into a great hobby
Stormy_jeebus-3418 August 2021
If you want a way to get into the lore of Warhammer 40k then look no further. It follows the book fairly accurately however if you want the full experience, of course you have to download the audiobook and experience the battle for Helsreach yourself. I have watched this probably four or five times and it is awesome every time I watch it so if you haven't watched it you need to.

Use of color was stunning. The line from the guard was fire. "I had a headache but it went away." had me rolling.

A Masterpiece!
rinaldi-7565620 November 2021
The art was off putting at first, but the writing, dialog, narrative, story arc, ect... was too good to ignore. I dismissed this as an indy film art concept that just flew over my head, but as the story progressed and I became more invested, I barely realized the slow transition of the art style. This only manufactured furthermore connections with the characters. I felt the anger, desperation, duty, honor, and a whole host of indescribable emotions that coursed through my soul. This masterpiece deserves and award.

"FOR DAWN AND THE EMPEROR!"
