DeVille versus Covid-19
lor_20 October 2023
Cherie DeVille gives a tour de force performance in "Kate and the Free Man", a vignette that manages to cover such topics as agoraphobia, paranoia and OCPD. She's trying to cope with Covid-19 by obsessively washing and scrubbing everything, unable to leave her home even to step out on the stoop to retrieve a gift of succulent plants sent by her sister (played in voice-only performance by Aaliyah Love).

DeVille's escape is by masturbation, having a recurring erotic fantasy concerning the title's Free Man, played broadly by Dick Chibbles. He's a stereotype of the macho anti-masker, proud of defying the pandemic and somehow appealing to a woman utterly crushed by the plague.

Similar to a revenge-fantasy, Cherie imagines him visiting her, met with open arms and POV camera, with the resulting sex scene right out of the early career playbook of Bree's talented competitor Missa X. Despite Bree's heavy-handed direction, this segment creates a compelling picture, from a porno point-of-view, of extreme reaction to our ongoing public health crisis.
