layered
Rob-O-Cop6 September 2021
Another good episode, notable for steering clear of predictable and typical tropes for when melt down guy meets ex girl friend after a long while.

Lots of layered detail is revealed and hinted at, and no we don't get the full picture or story, we just learn there's a lot more to it and hints at what that could be, and finishes with some blanks left unanswered, just like real life, and in doing so paints a more interesting and intriguing picture.

Top marks for casting Xena warrior princess as a makeupless wine and cool whip slurping x gf mum, and her puke. Either stellar SFX or more disturbingly Lucy can puke on cue.

Great casting for Megan too, she's just quirky enough with an underlying layer of annoying to b believable as a mind messing musician ex.

Gordon-Levitt delivers again, balancing issues with real life. I particularly liked his walk it off scene, and that he didn't overplay in the slightest, as we've come to expect and tolerate from tv.

What a pleasure to be treated as an intelligent viewer.

Quirkiness and fine acting

Are what make this odd little series worth coming back to. I always admire tv/film ventures whose characters are not particularly likable and which are not particularly plot driven and yet keep you hanging on by sheer virtue of the talent of its players and the tone of the proceedings. Nicely done so far.

Lucy Lawless's stellar performance is the only thing making it worth watching~

Granted I haven't watched any previous episodes had no idea about the show at all. I was at the edge of my seat waiting for Lucy Lawless to appear.. it was almost unbearably painful to get through everything else before it..my brain kept spinning trying to figure out what the what is this and whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy? Such slow-paced, awkward and uncomfortable scenes..I paused several times.. I am a softy when it comes to rating shows and movies.. but the only reason I gave it 3 stars is what Cheryl's scene acted out by the brilliant Lucy Lawless added to the -499,999,999,999,999,993 rating ... yes, it was below a frog's bum, and it's only savig grace is Lucy's acting where she somehow sort of manages to give the feeling of a comforting hug to the viewer, yes, even with the scenes and the character she's portraying (can even hear her voice comforting me 'there there, I'm here, it's alright..') ~~ well.. as Ares would say.. "Until next time ,Xena, until next time.."
