We forget that stunt double only sort of have to look like the actors they are doubling for. I think Jane Lynch could pull that off. She is a phenomenal talent, even if her acting is one note. That said, the plot thickens as the folks are bringing too much attention to themselves. That Nazi who runs the meeting should not have gotten away with that--for heaven's sake, it's New York. Whoever it is that has already made his/her point about Selena Gomez, she's not playing Ophelia in Hamlet or Mrs. Miniver. You want her emoting all over the place? She fits into the trio and is going to take a step back when with Martin and Short. I am so excited to see the season finale.

I did like Jane Lynch turning up as Sazz Pataki, Charles stunt double in his old cop show Brazzos.
It added some character moments to Charles and how his previous marriage fell apart.
You do wonder if his new found relationship with Jan might be disrupted by Sazz.
One thing for sure, Jan was never ever going to be squeaky clean. Then again not many are in the Arconia.
The only bum note was that the building committee could so easily revoke Charles, Oliver and Mabel's residency.
The penultimate episode sets whing nicely up for the finale by providing an important twist.

Love and lies are in the air. With a new character to a different perspective, there's suddenly an array of undiscovered possibilities. On Only Murders In the Building Season 1 Episode 9, we inch closer to the final revelations that will answer the question of the series -- who killed Tim Kono? So, phew! Jan is alive after a stabbing. Her opening voiceover is beautiful, complete with bassoon underscoring. Given what we learned about her in this episode, it makes sense that she's our penultimate narrator. It's a shame we only get a little of her perspective, but it makes sense -- she has been keeping SO MANY secrets from the gang. Why does she lie about the symphony of all things? Is she just embarrassed? Is it just a way for the writers to show that she's unreliable? The end was a blindside -- my jaw was on the floor. Did anyone call Jan and Tim as lovers? It's wonderful that a show that's been subject to so much dissection can still surprise with something so huge but totally explicable. Jan's always been a little shady simply by virtue of how she's been orbiting Charles. Someone with so much screen time has to be up to something (see also: Oscar, who we'll get to later). Jan subtly charmed her way into Charles's life -- does she even have feelings for him? Was she just ingratiating herself into the investigation so she could help bring her lover's killer to justice? Or was she just trying to make sure she wasn't a suspect? But if that were the case, why wouldn't she have gone along with the Dimas theory? Does she have a secret vendetta against Howard? We know Tim hated Evelyn the cat, does that mean Jan hated her too? Or did Jan kill Tim because he broke up with her? Something doesn't add up here. The lover-as-killer feels like a misdirect, but we're so close to the end now it's as possible as anything else.
Looking at Detective Williams's toxicology report, Tim died from secobarbital poisoning, which is the same poison that killed Evelyn (as Howard pointed out) and presumably Winnie. Secobarbital is often used in veterinary medicine. Who do we know that's a vet? Will Putnam.

What a twist!

The last minute or so of this episode is absolutely breathtaking, with a reveal that is truly shocking! The slow build up to it is done incredibly well, I just wish that the exposition and plot development instigated by Jane Lynch's character was given to another character, someone who has already been introduced. I love Jane Lynch as an actor, but this role was poorly written and out of place with the rest of the show.
Good episode except Lynch

Save Jan

Warning: Spoilers
So Jan is ok but the guy with his cat could be the killer of tim Kono : nothing sure but the Dimas are not the killer of Tim . So the case is not finished . And know they need to solve the case of Tim Kono . So the investigations keep going on. And we kno also that the cat also was poisoned by the same poison of Tim Kono . Interesting. And they have all a reason to find the killer : appartment , money, project , truth , podcast. And at the end , we have a revelation that maybe imply Jan in the murder . But not sure for now . Need to see more.
Ditch the Lynch

Lynch pouring cold water on proceedings

Why? Why has this new character been introduced now!? Lynch is annoying, over acting horribly and trying way too hard to "impress" her bosses and peers. You're acting opposite Steve Martin! Please graciously accept 2nd best off the bat! Also, why is the (white) landlady" "insulting" Charles by calling him "whitey". So, being a white woman is ok but a white man is an insult? Give me a break.
Thankfully "Zaz" isn't in the entire episode. I really hope she doesn't become a regular. Amy Ryan has irresistible charm and is a welcome addition which is why I am so surprised Lynch's presence is a major misjudgment. It's nothing new though. I get the same about Craig in Parks and Recreation.
Awful and nearly made me quit watching.

Suddenly they act like they got everything wrong and want to crawl in a hole?
They got 2 out of 3 very big things right.
That is amazing.
After 9 well crafted episodes - this one made me sad.
Still good though.
Just not at the high bar the other episodes set.

Awkward language placement and monotone Gomez
wildsnow9014 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode continues with the dull monotone Gomez who has almost no emotion as she interacts with the other actors.
They also continue to have every character, new or old, dump awkward vulgar language. It just seems forced and unnatural from almost every character. It's like the script writer had a 13 year old edit the script.
Lastly, the only attempt at humor was with the eposide guest star, Lynch, who unfortunately plays the same arrogant character she plays in everything.
1 star for dropping another suspect at the end, like always. And 1 star for obnoxious vulgar language woman fir kicking them all out of the building.
