Awful Race with the Devil rip-off

STOPPED DEAD is really dreadful shot-on-video thriller with a halfway decent premise let down by an absolutely terrible production style. There's a gory dream sequence early on but otherwise this film has very little incident and even less suspense. It's about two middle-aged couples who decide to take a trip in their motor home only to run afoul of some very bad people indeed.

This film goes for the conspiracy angle but totally fails to deliver in every respect. It feels a lot like the 1970s classic RACE WITH THE DEVIL but without that film's black magic element. The acting is bad and the script even worse. Skip it.

The quote above which serves as the title of this mini-review is repeated so often in the movie that I believe it could even serve as an alternate title. In fact, going to the bathroom is a oft-repeated theme of this film. But thank goodness there are no actual depictions of answering the call to nature -- save a few sound-effects.

That alone said, why did I give this movie seven stars?

Well, SD was inexpensively made and poorly videotaped. But the acting was not *so* bad and the film does feature an overweight middle-aged white guy kung fu fighting. That's something.

And the movie kept me interested. I *wanted* to finish it to see what happens to the four principals.

Finally, I can't help feeling that if the movie were a French production, filmed in black and white in an unpicturesque part of France, it would be considered a triumph of the art of film. I'm not kidding!
