8/10 for Part One
matrixdukenukem17 February 2023
It's been a while since I saw the hollywood version. So without hollywood bias I am writing this.

The original source is very smartly adapted into this Indianized version. Infact, I am impressed how the writers very subtly integrated current affairs into the events of the original source. It is also very well casted. I am loving the understated Aditya Kapoor is bringing to this character. Even Anil Kapoor who is famous for making his characters larger than life and sometimes louder than life (slumdog millionaire) has been keeping it very nuanced and thus adding to the menace. It feels more natural. I am not going to say anything about Shobhita Dhulipala because so far she hasn't been given much to do but the next part looks promising for her. Saswata Chatterjee is terrific as always and brings much needed comic relief in this dark methods. This is the first time I am watching Tilotama Shome and I am really enjoying her performance. I really hope she has a scene of banter with Saswata Chatterjee in next part.

It's so refreshing to hear good dialogues after such a long time. First Farzi and now this series is proof of how dialogues can make or break a scene. Also special mention to the title sequence. I didn't skip intro even once. Production design is top notch. They've really put their money into this. Great work behind the camera too except for a few out of focus sequences.

Where this series isn't working out for me is the pacing. A little too much breathing room is given to some scenes. Editing can be more snappy and the entire setup could've been an episode shorter. Shobita's character could've been given more to do, her backstory could've been explored instead of some other elements. Music is forgettable. But the most unforgivable mistake is marketing. Literally no one knows about this series. Is hotstar not confident about this series?

All that said, I am glad they picked this source and it looks great so far. I'll be watching the next part.

What a trap
sameerlodaya17 February 2023
Sameer lodaya.

The series is well made on trapping

The series is remake of the English version in the same title..all thanks to Sandeep the director and the entire team for making Hindi version with great stars so that viewers like us can watch some good stuff

The making is at par excellence and gives you a feeling as if you are watching some Hollywood series..the location are outclass and the overall look of the series is very stylish..the pace of the series goes very smooth and keeps you engaged where you know what is going to happen but you are still eager to see

Both Anil and Aditya looked very young and fresh and acted in more of expressions and less words with supportive females sohbita and tillotama who gave their best

The worst element the makers did by releasing it in two parts it kills all the enthusiasm which was created and as you get engrossed the 1st part ends and they show you treasure of part 2.

A story with some incredible performance
sayeed-9191817 February 2023
I love the story and all of the performances done by the actors. I respect the director and writer of this movie for mentioning the Myanmar crisis. I recently noticed Bollywood movies started using our country's names in their movies. Sometimes in a good way and sometimes in a bad way.

It's kind of strange that they used a lot of misinformation about our country in this serious. I personally request them to do some research before giving any information about a country.

Last year I watched a movie performance by akshay kumar . In the movie, they talked about our war with Pakistan in a perspective that is totally wrong.

Looks promising yet short of the level of the original.
vbagnihotri-0546817 February 2023
The Night Manager has all the ingredients for a hit espionage adaptation of a hit novel and an original series. Yet it falls short of the level of the original.

The cast is good with some promising talent. Anil Kapoor as a baddie is a fun prospect to watch. He is cut for such roles. Aditya Roy Kapoor has the charm and persona of a spy. Sobhita Dhulipala plays the damsel in distress to the tee. Saswata Chatterjee is equally clever and conniving. Tilotima Shome is a bright spark. She plays a spy boss inimitably.

The series has good production value considering the way it is mounted by the makers. The writing by Sridhar Raghavan is intriguing. The storytelling by Sandeep Modi needs more urgency and astuteness I feel. Really wish it soars in the second part. Would be such a waste otherwise.

Didn't know it was a remake 😅
ronitsriv14 May 2023
The story is great. It never gets boring. There is always something to expect.

This series I feel was more focused on the details of the story than on action sequences. I hope that is not the reason people go and check this series.

I didn't know this was a remake when I watched it so I ended up enjoying it. This kind of also raises some questions on some moral things.

// Spoiler from here Overall this involves a hotel manager slowly getting involved in reporting an illegal arms trade. He slowly gets information but later also agreed to work with the government.

// Spoiler till here

Some of the moments are well written. I found them quite clever.

Overall must see in theatres.😂 Just kidding.

Brilliant performances in this predictable yet engaging thriller!!
sanjubhat21 February 2023
Web series review: The Night Manager streaming on Disney+ Hotstar #sanjuzzreviews #TheNightManagerOnHotstar #AnilKapoor #AdityaRoyKapur #DisneyPlusHotstar Story: A protagonist with a dark past, Shaan (Aditya Roy Kapur) is tasked by RAW to infiltrate the inner circle of a dangerous arms dealer Rungta (Anil Kapoor) who is masquerading as a philanthropist. A dangerous game then ensues which forms the crux of the plot.

What sets this webseries apart is the casting, absolutely bang on!!

Brilliant acting by Anil Kapoor as the ruthless Rungta, Saswata Chatterjee as Rungta's friend and right hand man, Tilotama Shome as the fiesty RAW agent, Lipika Saikia & Aditya Roy Kapoor are the highlight of the show. Shobhita Dhulipala too provides the oomph with some sizzling scenes !! Rukhsar & Ravi Behl are however wasted.

The story is a usual spy drama - nothing new there . The narrative though predictable at times is fast paced & engaging.

Another thing which suprised me was that only the 1st Part (with 4 episodes) is being streamed. Part 2 will stream somewhere in June 2023 . The makers could have easily released the entire web series consisting of 8 episodes at one go. Would have been great for viewers from the continuity perspective.

All said and done, this one's worth a dekho guys !! Watch it was some brilliant acting by the lead actors!!

Going with 3.5/5.. Adios 🙂!!

"The Night Manager" is a thrilling and gripping (A must watch) web series
suhailahmad-2391718 February 2023
"The Night Manager" is a thrilling and gripping web series available on Hotstar that tells the story of an ex-Indian soldier, Shaan sen Gupta (Aditya Roy Kapoor) , who is recruited by an intelligence operative to infiltrate the inner circle of an international arms dealer, Mr Rungta (Anil Kapoor). The series boasts a talented cast who deliver outstanding performances throughout.

One of the most notable aspects of the series is its production value, with the stunning locations, cinematography, and set design adding to the overall atmosphere and tension. The writing is also excellent, with sharp dialogue and well-developed characters that keep viewers engaged and invested in the story.

Overall, "The Night Manager" is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys spy thrillers and suspenseful dramas. While it has a few flaws, such as pacing issues in some episodes, the series more than makes up for it with its stellar cast, superb production values, and captivating storyline.

I highly recommend this series, and would give it a solid 8.5 out of 10.

Connecting Good
sudhanshu-7263019 February 2023
The series is very good. Connecting all the event and its like those series which people love to finish in one shot.

But there are some unrealistic events those could make this series more realistic like 1- this night manager is doing everything for random 14 years old girl guest who was killed by her local gangster husband. This is a series not a movie you can add up 20 more min to show some realistic connection between this night manager and that guest or this girl guest could be her some relative or something else so he will have a strong revenge motive.

2-Again itna bada don and those 3-4 peron with small pistols kidnapped his son in a party.

3- we suddenly came to know shelly's wife doesn't know about shelly's criminal activity. There could be 5 min scene to prove this.

4- why night manager was continuously taking picture of shelly's bedroom office pics from his son's phone. He never used those pics anywhere 5- why lipika is so eagerly behind in shelly. Nobody knows this

Anyways series is awesome. I am waiting for its next part.

An Ode to the original series...!!!
PANDIAN12062119 February 2023
Despite having Anil Kapoor who shines at a major portion and other versatile actors(not to be mentioned particularly) it's Sridhar raghavan's screenplay and Akshat/Shantanu duo's dialogues that keeps faith on the series.... The interesting part is the visual appeal overall the series handled by Benjamin and Ram Verma makes u glued to the idiot Box... Aditya Roy Kapoor portrays as a night manager at a posh hotel does a brilliant job and his body language shows the mannerism and temperament of an ex-lieutenant showing some responsive act in handling tough roles... Fortunately there are no added cheap thrills or twists and turns as the producers honesty in approaching the original series shows their passion towards the art form.. Overall the season 2 decides the success of the series as of now season 1 is a promising start.

A&A takes the shown to another level
abhis-kumar18 February 2023
This is similar or same storyline as British show the Night Manager but bit of Indian flavor added to the Indian show.

The goods: Acting from almost all the character is good but Anil and Aditya kapoor has taken the show to different level. It is cat and mouse game till the end of Part 1. Let see what could part two brings.

The Bad: Story and the way it is progressing is bit slow and not very exiting. Needs to change and make it more thrilling. Cut of few characters out if the show then there will be more fun.

Direction is good but as mentioned above need to tighten the screw a little to make it much more interesting.

Aditya kapur needs more shows and more movies. He got in him.

Impressive writing!
SoumikBanerjee19961 July 2023
I haven't seen the British series yet, so I don't have any point of reference to draw comparisons here, and thus, I wouldn't be doing the honours. Instead, my entire assessment will exclusively be based on the Indian Adaptation's own merits and speaking of that; I must say, this is one compelling series. Not without its frailties, of course, but the way they had sustained the thrill and the element of suspense, it genuinely deserves some words of appreciation from my end.

In spy thrillers, we often see the emotional core being used merely as a tool to progress the story, and they in most cases, end up getting sidelined in the course of the action. However, here, this same trope was brilliantly utilised not only as a source of motivation for our central character but also as a catalyst that propagates the well-rounded trajectory of the main plot. Yet again, I would like to applaud the writers, for they had done a brilliant job.

Pales in comparison to the UK adaptation of the book!
drankitapandya22 February 2023
I don't think the Indian film industry has even one actor with the mettle to be comparable to Hugh Laurie. This fact spoiled the show for me since the start, since the UK version was so very well carried on Hugh's able shoulders. For the role of Richard Onslow Roper or Shailendra Rungta, you need someone who could charm, intimidate, and disgust you at the same time, and there is nobody better than Hugh for this tough job.

The other actors have managed to do some justice to their parts.

The dialogues and direction could have used some improvement.

All in all, a good watch for one time.

Didn't understand why they needed to make the audiences wait for the conclusion till June when the episodes have apparently been already shot.

Pretty much enjoyable
Biswas_29 June 2023
So finally I can review the entire series as the final part is out now.

Based on the British web series by the same name, The Night Manager is about a hotel manager who is recruited as a spy to enter into a dangerous arms dealers space to get info about his business, the reason for his recruitment to some extent being personal as well.

TNM is set on a commercial pitch so don't go in expecting some great level detailing and layers and all. TNM is like a very long yet well edited commercial film that you can just sit back, relax and enjoy .

What i really loved about this series is that it never really deviates from its main plot . Also, the series never stretches because you know the inevitable is about to happen and in part two , it doesn't take more than 3 hours for that to happen. Despite being 7 episodes long, the series is an easy breezy binge watch thanks to the riveting plot.

There's also a mini romantic angle between Shobhita and AKR but that thankfully doesn't interfere too much .

Everyone has done a good job in this series especially special mention to Tilottama Shome and if course our never ever aging Anil Kapoor who shines as the mostly calm yet dangerous Shelly . ARK too has done a good job .

Negatives - A talented actor like Saswata felt wasted in a rather awkward role . Also, i somewhere feel the world of Shelly could have been explored a bit more (if the makers would have thought to stray beyond what the original source material offered).

Overall, a good enjoyable watch. The first part might be a bit slow for a few but it set it up very well for the finale. But I still wish these remakes and adaptations on OTT stop , especially of these British series because recently I watched another adaptation Kafas which too was a British adaptation and then you also have Rudra . C'mon you can make original Indian series and trust me if made well they will work well (See Family man , Mirzapur, Asur and all).

An amazing action packed series
dynamicdhyans21 February 2023
Love the storyline that the series sets up. It gets you up and excited to what will come up ahead. Love the performance of every actor in the movie and also the perfect casting. Casting is done perfectly each actor feels like they are acting in their signature style and gives a feeling the characters are real. The series perfectly acts as a setting for the next part. It creates the perfect suspense for the second part and also creates an excitement in yourself for the second part which will hopefully be even more thrilling, action packed, exciting and even more exciting. I'm honestly just waiting for the second part at this moment.

Why only 4 episodes?
vanshchugh-7742110 March 2023
It's a must watch, at the end you would feel like you wanted more of it. The story is quite engaging keeps you thrilled till the last moment.

Anil Kapoor is awesome as always but Aditya Roy Kapoor takes all attention this time. Fabulous casting, Screenplay is so catchy that you would not want to get up from your couch, awesome job done by the entire cast.

The only negative I felt is that it's quite short and the saddest part is that second season is the final season releasing in June 2023. There is no real downside of the show it's an awesome show and truly a binge watch material.

Thank you.

Aditya Kapoor is a big letdown.
shaonwrites26 February 2023
All characters are brilliant except the night manager himself. Don't know whether it was because of the class of other actors, but each and every frame of Aditya Kapoor with his co stars shows how bad an actor he is. God knows how the directors did not anticipate this problem before casting this guy. Most of his movements are robotic. There's no diversity nor originality in any of his expressions. Specially when Tillottama is pursuing her to take up the assignment, never did it seem an inner conflict was going on inside. Aditya Kapoor just followed the script. The subtelity and undercurrent did not surface anywhere.

All in all Aditya Kapoor is a third rate actor and it was blunderous to cast him along with stalwarts like Anil Kapoor, Sasawata Chatterjee, Tilottama Shome.

Best (if you have not seen the original??)
ramendas2119 March 2023
Just before writing the review, I looked at some of the reviews depicting and comparing the original version which I did not watch yet. With that I have nothing to compare with and I found the series best watched of late based on the genre.

Either producer and director have the best leadership quality or everyone in the cast given their best or they are just the best. Even the kid did wonderful job. All of them got into the skin of the character and delivered. My favorites are Brij Pal (Saswata Chatterjee) and Kaveri (Sobhita Dhulipala). The writer and the actors put so much juices into these two characters that you love it and hate him at the same time.

Hates off!!

Btw, I watched the Farzi the weekend before and I did not like it as much, maybe because I loved Breaking Bad to be my best show ever till now :-)

Good performances elevate the show.
nadkarnisumeet24 February 2023
The Night Manager review :

A desi adaptation of the popular namesake British series; The Night Manager (on Hotstar) is a techinically sound suspense drama filled with some fine performances from the ensemble cast. Of course, it is an Anil Kapoor show most of the time as he plays the global arms dealer Shelly Rungta to perfection. Aditya Roy Kapoor springs a surprise with an assured act as Shaan Sengupta, a hotel manager who is hired by a RAW agent (Tillotama Shome) to spy on Rungta. Shaan's interaction with Rungta's extended family particularly his young son and his saucy wife (Sobhita Dhulipala) make for some engaging moments in the four episodes of approximately an hour each.

As aforementioned, the performances are great and I particularly liked Tillotama Shome multitasking as a RAW agent cum homemaker. The chameleonistic actor can fit in to any role and make it her own. Take Delhi Crime (2022) and Sir (2021) for example!! Saswata Chaterjee is superb as the gay crony of Rungta who doesn't trust the new entrant Shaan one bit. Sobhita looks stunning in her multiple set of bikinis!!

At the end of fourth episode, we are told that this one was just part one of the story and the conclusion will start streaming from June 2023. Well, why take so much time. Especially when the episodes seem to be already shot!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

Great, Short, Crisp and Complete.

The Night Manager (2023) on Disney+ Hotstar

Web Series 7 episodes

The Night Manager is a 7-episode web series that features excellent casting. Aditya Roy Kapoor is a treat to watch as the protagonist, and Anil Kapoor gives a fine performance as the villain. The two female leads, Sobhita Dhulipala and Tillotama Shome, are also outstanding. The supporting cast is also very good, with Saswat Chatterjee particularly memorable.

The series is full of twists and turns, and keeps the viewer engaged until the very end. It is short, complete, and crisp, with no unnecessary lengthening. The plot is made and well executed, and the series left me feeling satisfied.

Some additional details:

The series is based on the novel of the same name by John le Carré.

The series was directed by Sandeep Modi and Priyanka Ghose.

The part one was released on Disney+ Hotstar on February 16, 2023.

Conclusion, The Night Manager is a thrilling and complete series that is well worth watching. The wait for the second part was worth it.

Hollywood style story framing
souvikchatterjee-811669 September 2023
Possitive points-the first episode is very well defined and engaging. It will make stick with the seats.the characters was well defined. Anill kapoors acting is done fab, but other factors will not be considered. Aditya roy kapoor is well done, hats off. He will definitely hit you with his acting and actions. Story is good. Action is very good. Thrilling to the end Negative points- the interaction of a hero and villain character was little bit poor. After first episode the story become slow but thrilling action does not disappoint you. The story is not very larger with space utilisation Conclusion- if you love action thriller series go for it. It is entertainer series. Three characters i like mose the shaan(aditya) , shaile(anil kapoor) and Bj(saswata) other characters was good at their roles.

The Night Manager UNFILTERED Review

Warning: Spoilers
While 1<2: print('absolute waste of time! How wrong can you go from a really good source material? Even the sequences that are lifted shot to shot, with dialogues that they didn't even bother to rewrite or translate, don't have the same impact as the original. Ache kapde pehenne se acha show nahi banta. Absolute disappointment. Nothing worked for me in this show. Not the Acting. Not the Cinematography. Not the Music. The Direction is as clueless as can be. Editing is slow. VFX is garbage. That one shot of the girl falling from the building is such a pivotal shot that was repeated multiple times. Why not just do something that doesn't look bad? Maybe check the source material on how to do things right when in doubt? There's a well made series AND a book. Still this show's writing is weak. Characters confused. What an')

Nice one
souravnancy10 April 2023
After a long time I found good entertainment mixed with good role plays by the actors especially Anil Kapoor and Sidharth Roy Kapur. Story is intriguing. They should have released atleast 6 episode in first part. Anil Kapoor puts life in his character. That spy agency lady role is too much dramatic it should have been avoided, it somewhat takes away the genuinity of the show. Now eagerly waiting for the second part. Hope it does not end in a conventional way. Senior actors like Anil Kapoor are a charm to watch, hope they continue in future also. I am also impressed by the acting potential of Sidharth.

Binge worthy Thriller adapted for us Indians
drhemantsant-baroda3 July 2023
Forget onetwokafour look Anil kapoor without any change in the look .Forget that it is not original but a remake of Western make 2016 series of same name Stop comparision stop low esteemed view of Indian effort and be ready to stand up and clapp for this masterly Indian Remake. Story by master writer and it's Hindi adapted Script shines Editing helps it to another level .The scope and scape of the film takes you far wide and varied locations to build a solid story telling film viewing experience. This is one which cannot be watched one episode at a time .So makers took a break after feb23 till 29june23. Wait was worth it. Actors and team making it take a bow My fav was the frail RAW agent in grip of honesty and hurt .She lives upto the character of grit bravery commonsense and values which film creators painted on paper. Tillottams Shome wears it all with aplomb and wins hearts. Acting as well as Action despite feminine maternal gift wrapped around her.

Aditya Kapoor rises above his hunk to stay as cool as he could have in character who is on edge of cliff situations he is dragged in by his values. Rest full in. Cinematography is superb. Locations original and classy. Action as situation demanded .But again my best action moment was created by Shome and Shobita combined crucial key timely legwork.

Priyanka Ghose and Sandeep Mody we expect more from you Travel more meet right people listen carefully and create original Indian master piece sooner. I am waiting as one of the clapping millions.
