How could anyone have thought this episode was a good idea? Are they trying to cash in on 90s nostalgia? It failed.
This doesn't feel like Sunny any more. The banter is gone, the atmosphere, the natural dialogue, the musical segues, the absurd scenarios. It's all gone.
Why did anyone think these ageing plastic balding monsters approaching 50 could pass for younger than we saw them in the early seasons? Their wrinkled, angular expressionless faces are bad enough, the actors themselves cannot convey youth any more. It's embarrassing to watch.
But it's not just the appearances and acting. The story completely vitiates established narratives from the early seasons. The first encounters with Frank no longer make sense. Gun Fever no longer makes sense. Dennis and Dee go on welfare no longer makes sense. Dee's evolving character during seasons one and two no longer makes sense - we are now to believe she hit herself in the head and became a horrible person instantly, only to become normal again by the time of season 1, and then gradually get worse again.
Frank's parts, never mind the fact he cannot possibly pass for younger than the first two seasons, he can't even pass for younger than the awful Frank's brother episode, but the one joke here was so telegraphed that it was painful to slowly witness it unfold. And again, it just ruins the early Frank/Dennis episodes. They George Lucas'd it.
Everything about this episode is an insult to fans, and, most importantly of all, it wasn't funny. I think this show is done.
