Washington, défilé de la garde nationale du district Colombia (1896)
On their trip through America, the Lumiere Brothers ended up in Washington, D.C. where they filmed this footage of the National Guard marching down the street. Obviously one shouldn't be expecting any sort of plot or anything like that but it's still quite fascinating getting to see this early footage of a group of National Guard members marching down the street. The film closes out with the band marching by and one can only imagine what they were playing. Cinema certainly wasn't changed with this film but at the same time it's still a lot of fun to watch simply because it captured a moment in time and it's just rather fascinating getting to see it today.
