Decent effects but a bit too episodic

Warning: Spoilers
Now that we have got to the third episode it seems clear that this series will be episodic in nature with only a small time given over to the background plot arcs involving the ACs and the recently arrived Julius Berger. In this episode the people of Forthaven are expecting the final whiteout of the season but papers written by a scientist before he died on the transport ship suggest that a huge storm is approaching. Of course they don't say this explicitly, they are in the form of equations that will require young mathematical genius Tipper Malone to decipher. While he is working on that Fleur goes out to return the baby to the ACs and a team are sent out to retrieve the communications mast so it won't be destroyed.

While I'm still enjoying the series it isn't quite as good as I'd hoped as each episode contains a story that is neatly wrapped up by the end; I think it would have been better if we were left in doubt over the fate of people caught out in the storm until the next episode. I still hold out hope that things will pick up when the background plot arcs come to the fore. As Julius rises to a higher position in the colony it seems certain that there will be a confrontation between him and Tate. The special effects were pretty good for BBC sci-fi although any faults could have been hidden by the use of 'shaky-cam'!

Episode #1.3

I am still not impressed

I will give credit to them for great scenery. Awesome choice for filming. It all looks very beautiful. I also liked the special effects of the white storm covering their city

But when it comes to characters and dialogue, this is where they lose all the points. The conversation between Stella and Lilly was just painful to watch. Cheesy written dialogue and horrible acting by Kietzmann. Fleur and Rudi's conversation was also a poorly written dialogue

Add to this the cheesy scene of a little boy and his sisters playing wedding and you have a lot of garbage in one episode.

The main problem is that I really didn't care throughout the whole episode about what will happen. They didn't manage to get my interest at all. And I also don't care about what will happen in the next episode

Episode 3 (very minor spoilers)

Warning: Spoilers
So that was episode 3 then? The question is, what is "Outcasts" supposed to be? It is based on an Alien world, so its placed into the Sci Fi slot, but apart from that, it is really about people and "life situations".

Now i do enjoy good, structured and interesting writing, i really do. But when we have a man due to get married the next day, setting out to fix a transmitter before the "killer" sandstorm arrives, only to get trapped before it! Will he be saved, will he get to the ceremony on time? Well, i tell you what. Lets send the ex of his wife to be, to save him! Seriously!!!

The killer "Sandstorm/Whiteout" is a sloppy tool to get the "Wunderkind" involved. A Mega scientist writes dozens of sheets of complex formula and hands them to his wife before she escapes the crashing spaceship.....and only he can sort them out!Oh, and as a gift for "helping", he gets to use the machine that allows him to see his sisters he left behind on earth. Cue, soft music, four sisters and him as a small boy racing through the fields and through the trees like some hair product commercial in slow motion, fade to him crying....end credits.

I love the BBC and admire its vision and quality and i am proud to have it here in the UK. But i find "Outcasts" a let down as a Sci Fi fan. It is simply being used as a tool to have some "Soap Opera" family drama and "situations".

I want it to be more than it is, or more like i would want it to be.
