A fabulous on a novel by Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz!

A shocking story very nicely put! With beautiful images, great actors, a wise selection of scenes, a brilliant soundtrack by a genius composer and lyric style of directing, focused mainly on the visual component, this is a real must-see! It tells the story of Jean-Luc, a man who loves a woman, Christine, and who lives in the woods, who faces the vicissitudes of love and fatalism of the soul. It shows his daily-life, his relations with nature and other men (and with his wife), and finally his fall, as brute and cruel as passion itself.

The soundtrack by Arvo Part, in its erudite medieval-like rural counterpoint, blends perfectly with those simple yet crude images of the Pyrenees mountains.
