Thirty-seven minute 'Making of' documentary for The Flash (2023), included on the Blu-ray and 4K UHD versions (the DVD version has no extras). We follow production from concept, through casting, pre-production, to production (including editing, and composition of the score). The work that goes into one of these superhero blockbusters is staggering. The set design and construction alone is immense, highlighted here with the largest Batcave ever built (inspired by both the Tim Burton and the Christopher Nolan caves), and an entire American suburban street - built in a field in the UK! We get interviews with director Andy Muschietti, his wife Barbara (one of the producers), as well as those involved with costumes, effects, stunts, location-finding, props, the aforementioned incredible sets, and more. We also see filming of several key scenes in the movie, including Batman, Flash, and Wonder Woman on the bridge near the beginning (you'd swear the actors are on a real city bridge), and the desert battle. As well as being a fascinating insight into the nuts and bolts of film-making, this feature really highlights the importance of - and effort needed in sticking to - schedules. There isn't much margin for error. As a lifelong DC fan The Flash is a film I enjoyed a lot. In its own way this documentary is just as good. Recommended.
