Cordelia cuts with a knife in both of her eyes, she removed her eyes. The Axeman kills all the with hunters with his axe. Fona kills Harrisom with a axe. Delphine sticks a knife into Marie. With two episodes left, American Horror Story begins to try to go finish up story lines to prep for the big finish.

Trigger Warning(s): Scenes of Mutilation & Torture

Though season 3 certainly is more consistent than season 2, there remains the occasional disappoints. For this episode we are hit with quite a few. Between the battle with Delphi Trust; what is happening with Marie's character; and the fight for the next supreme, needless to say the show seems to be losing steam, and fast.

Topic 1: Happily Ever After

In this episode, as noted, a few stories are tied up and sadly the Delphi Trust one is done quite hastily, in my opinion. You see, Hank's dad decides to try to have a sit down so they can recover financially from what Marie and Fiona did, and maybe get revenge later. So, they offer a 100 year truce of which the counter from Marie and Fiona is the disbandment of Delphi Trust. Neither side can agree, so Fiona decides to end the deal by having the Axeman kill everyone, except Hank's father. She personally takes care of him and with this, we not only see Delphi Trust fall, but also in the episode we see Marie's character become degraded into Fiona's sassy black friend.

Thus making it so that another war the show built up gets horribly executed. And what makes the situation weird is how basically, Fiona's whole wait plan somehow ends with the whole board of directions in one room, and with bodyguards who seemingly aren't prepared as they should. Which makes that whole billion dollar company thing seem like such a fluke for between Marie and Fiona's magic, you'd think they would have been prepared to the point where one man with an Axe couldn't take down everyone.

Topic 2: Say Hello to A Few Old Faces

As Nan is buried, post murder, we see Queenie, with Delphine on a leash, return to the show. Unfortunately though, despite Queenie force feeding Delphine Black history, she still seems as racist as ever, despite those tears we saw. But, in order to reinforce why those tears may have meant nothing, her back-story is retraced and we are shown how this serial killer started. You see, like most serial killers, she started on animals, and then she went onto humans. But, considering her mindset, going from cutting a chicken's head off to gutting a Black slave, well the only difference may have been you can eat the chicken.

But, to focus on Queenie real quick, seemingly her return doesn't mean everything is fine and dandy. Queenie is upset with Marie for leaving her there, and Marie replies she assumed she was dead, and then Cordelia notes how happy she is to see Queenie which leads to, later on, them chatting. In this chat, Queenie tells Cordelia what Fiona has been for the past few episodes: she is weak and a liability. As Queenie notes, more people have died since she left, and with this, seemingly Cordelia snaps. She decides to blind herself to get her clairvoyant powers back.

Which leads us back to talk about Delphine. With her now not only being the maid to the witches, and Kyle, but now also Marie, degradation isn't even strong enough of a word for how she feels. So, upon a similar opportunity to her first human kill, she takes a gardener to Spalding's doll room, and tortures him. Then, to my surprise, the ghost of Spalding shows up, and he speaks on a way to make Marie mortal. Thing is, it is a trick so what happens is he gets an expensive doll and Delphine is convinced Benadryl can make Marie mortal and able to die. So, when it doesn't work, Marie chases after Delphine and then gets hit over the head by Spalding who, I should note, isn't fond of Marie and I'm not sure if it is because she is Black or if simply because he sees her as the lifelong enemy of the coven. Either way, conveniently no one is around for the attack, nor comes around post Marie falling down all those stairs, so now Marie is at Delhpine's mercy, since she is knocked out, and with this the show continues to weaken Marie and show that Black characters should expect the worse on Ryan Murphy productions.

Topic 3: The Beginning of the End

Now, with Nan gone, Misty stuck in a grave, Queenie's return, and Zoe and Madison still being alive, we now have 3 active potential supremes. Though, in reality, it really is only between Zoe and Madison since there is no way in hell they are going to let Queenie become the first Black supreme. So, with that said, Madison sees herself as the next supreme and continues to be very similar to Fiona, especially upon learning Kyle is in love with Zoe. So, upon learning this, she threatens their lives, in front of Myrtle, and with this Myrtle gives Zoe and Kyle tickets to leave to Orlando, and jewelry to pawn if need to. And all this is done for Myrtle seems now vested in Zoe for next supreme, plus she adores the love Zoe and Kyle have for one another.

Overall

This episode was disappointing in my opinion. I mean, first they decided to make Marie a second fiddle who has devolved into Fiona's sassy black girlfriend, and then you have Delphine getting the upper hand over her. Not to forget, Delphi Trust's rise and fall was as epic as an inexperienced boy's first time. So now all we have is what may happened to Marie and who will be the next supreme. Which, really, is hardly that interesting since the wild cards have left and though the one person Fiona can't kill maybe Queenie, like I said, there is almost no way in hell they are going to allow Queenie to become the first Black supreme.

Quick review for an episode that seemed to go by too quick
AustinStar21 January 2014
That's right! If you are an fan of the show, this season probably has not been your favorite. However, in this episode, the story seems to emerge from this season's standard of being a raw version of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." This season has been mostly fallen into a Sci-Fi/Drama until now.

Tonight, with the episode: "Protect the Coven," The premise of the entire series seems to emerge in one of the most unsettling episodes of the season.

If this is a sign of things to come, for the next two episodes, it may all pay off with the series returning to its roots.

LOVED THIS ONE! Blood, Guts, Gore, Catalysts, hooks, this episode is DEFINITELY worth watching, over several others in this season.

the witch hunters get the axe

I loved the episode, it was great with the coven and the axeman taking on the witch hunters, it was great if only the hunters put a better fight, but positives are it moved the story forward and gave us some carnage candy in the process

S3.E11 - Dead Witch Hunters [9/10]

Warning: Spoilers
(S3. E11) My Live Reaction / Review for American Horror Story Season 3 Episode 11 ''Protect the Coven''. The previous episode was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Cordelia blinded herself? That's brutal, I feel bad for her. Nice to see Spalding again, I really like the character. Myrtle wants Zoe to leave the coven? I cant say she is wrong. The witch hunters wont be hunting witches no more? Could they be telling the truth? The axeman killed everyone? I didn't see that coming. Poor LaLaurie thought that she could kill Laveau. Zoe and Kyle left the coven. The coven is falling apart. Overall this episode was good, my rating is 9/10.
