Actually I have two boys with ald and currently bone marrow transplant is the only way to cure them so yes that part is accurate. However it mainly effects boys, very rare for a girl to be effected but it had happened. However there story should have done more research on the topic for sure. Very exciting that they at least are getting the awareness of the disease out there though just

OK... ALD does not affect females to begin with. They are only carriers of the faulty gene and would only know that they carry the gene if they have male offspring who would then exhibit symptoms. Also, bone marrow isn't how you treat ALD at all. Whoever wrote the screenplay for this episode didn't do their homework apparently... They decided to take My Sister's Keeper and Lorenzo's Oil, pick various bits (of sort-of facts) from both and mix them up...
