Another season 2 corker with a shock ending.
maureen_smith514 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
After possibly the best episode of Gotham to date last week we get the conclusion of the Bridgit story who becomes one of Batman's greatest bad guys plus the ending is totally shocking and a surprise.

The episode opens with Butch(Drew Powell)at Theo Galavan's(James Frain)place part of the plan by his boss Cobblepot(Robin Lord Taylor)to infiltrate Galavan's place to find Cobblepot's kidnapped mother, after some suspicion from Barbara(Erin Richards)Galavan and his sister Tabitha(Jessica Lucas)agree to let Butch join them after Butch pretends Cobblepot cut off his hand thinking he was working against him.

Meanwhile Gordon(Ben McKenzie)and the cops are after whoever killed the police officer last week not knowing it was Bridgit Pike(Michelle Veintimilla)who accidentally killed the officer with her flamethrower. She is staying with Selina Kyle(Camren Bicondova)in hiding and though feeling guilty they decide they need money so Bridgit can leave Gotham so with her fire equipment and flamethrower in hand they steal money from a human trafficking ring but are noticed on camera and Selina is recognised by Gordon, just after appearing to say goodbye to each other Bridgit is kidnapped by her abusive brothers and is taken back to their hideout.

Butch is caught by Galavan snooping so Tabitha leaves him unconscious.

After abusing her once more Bridgit has enough of her brothers so kills them by setting them alight with her flamethrower.Selina catches up with Bridgit but realises her attitude has changed and that she wants to punish abusive people leading to her returning to the trafficking ring and burns the traders and lets the ladies free but after a tip off from Selina Bridgit runs straight into Gordon,Bullock(Donal Logue)and the cops and after a small confrontation Bridgit accidentally burns herself badly. This leads to a angry face to face argument with Selina and Gordon at his place where she blames Jim for what happened to Bridgit.

As Galavan continues to try and get Bruce Wayne(David Mazouz)on side Butch escapes Galavan's and tells Cobblepot where his mother is.

Ed Nygma(Cory Michael Smith)and Kristen Kringle(Chelsea Spack)have another date but after they sleep together for the first time he not wanting any secrets between them tells her he accidentally killed the police officer that was bothering her thinking she will think that's what she would of wanted but this all goes wrong as she realises Nygma is a killer and terrified tries to escape but fearing she will tell the police stops her and holds her against the door by her neck but by accident strangles her to death, utterly distraught Ed lets out a scream.

Finally we see Bridgit though still alive but severely burnt taken to Indian Hills a underground facility underneath Arkham Asylum which experiments on humans by scientists and they say the armour Bridgit wears has melted to her body which will lead to her becoming Firefly.

Though not as action packed as the previous instalment this was another top notch episode of Gotham with a satisfying conclusion to the story that started last week and a shock even better than Jerome's surprise demise a few episodes back and will make Nygma truly become The Riddler.

Again like last week Veintimilla is the standout performer as the tragic Bridgit Pike who though a victim of abuse has to turn to crime to get away from her horrible brothers which of course goes wrong when she kills them and though she does wrong things you hope she can get away from her troubles even though her equipment is her own downfall but judging by the final scene this isn't the end of her as her character will be back in some form as alter ego Firefly.Though only briefly seen the other two star performers this week are Smith as Ed and Spack as Kristen who seemed like a lovely couple who were just right for each other but as we know Ed is destined to become one of Batman's greatest enemies The Riddler so quickly this couple fall apart as he admits to murdering the rival for her affection and the scene where he kills her by accident will bring tears to your eyes as here is someone who never wanted to be a bad guy but this will make him one,the few episodes together were lovely and sweet and both were terrific in their roles.

The main action moments involve Bridgit's tragic story and seeing her light up her nasty brothers and those who abuse others will make you like her character more, she is doing wrong but doing right at the same time even if it comes tumbling down in the end.The scenes with Nygma and Kringle are excellent and gripping as their sweet romance falls apart very quickly as she calls him a murderer and insane and trying to stop her leaving forces her against the door and strangles her by mistake, its a shocking scene that though we might of expected it near the end of season two I think now its the right time as Nygma can truly become The Riddler and love Smith more as the evil form of himself.

Niggles include again Galavan who is even less interesting a villain than Fish Mooney the season before and though the story involving him is very good its beginning to run its course though I do like Jessica Lucas as his sister Tabitha who is much more interesting and cheeky and her skills with a whip are something to behold.Another niggle is not enough Taylor as Cobblepot/Penguin or Sean Pertwee as Alfred as I love each character.

Another excellent episode with a top conclusion to the Bridgit/Firefly story, set ups for the next few episodes,a truly shocking and emotional ending with Nygma and great to see Indian Hills which will pave the way for creepy bad guy Hugo Strange and his odd experiments which hopefully leads to weirder bad guys like Bane and Clayface.

Gotham city had never been depicted with such perfection; Love exists, but Darkness reigns everyone and everywhere.

Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the of darkest episodes I have seen out of the DC/Marvel shows. It was beautifully thought of and directed as the chills run down my spine when you realise that for a few of the characters, such as Nigma and Selina, that this episode is their turning points to the 'dark side', with both losing someone close to them. In fact, the beauty of it was to start the episode off with a pleasant tone, showing how both relations peaks on a good note, which henceforth lays the foundation for a contrast with their grief by the end.

Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) Brilliantly played his part, showing clear inner conflict when Kristen shows a little envy for a more "dangerous" man and reveals that she suspects a hidden side to the former. To everyone's satisfaction, when they are done making love, becoming as physically close that they could, Nymga decides to confess his murder. Obviously, things escalates quickly and his love of his life ends up dead by his own hands. (Can be related when bridget pike kills her own brother and emphasises on the horrid tone of the episode).

Easter eggs also prepares for excitement by the end. Indian Hills; Division of Wayne enterprises.

A Darker Gotham
bm-6942430 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Wow this show is good. Although Season 1 took more of a Law and Order: SVU approach, this season just went full force DC. I have never seen such a dark show in my life. People are choked, eyeballs come out of eyesockets, and people are burned to death. While I definitely critcize the abuse angle they went for with Firefly you can't lie that it's an interesting backstory. As for Selina, Camren does another beautiful performance. I'm glad Bruce's story was sidelined this episode for more focus on the other two stories as it's very obvious in which direction that story is taking. Now to talk about the best, and saddest part of the episode. Kristen Kringle's death. Wow. Cory Michael Smith and Chelsea Spack have such beautiful chemistry, as you feel for both of them as Nygma reveals he killed Doughtery. It get's very emotional when Nygma has Kringle pinned up against the door, and tries to explain to her he killed Doughtery for her. I feel your tears Nygma. 9/10 just for that amazing Nygma/Kringle plot.

Graphic Gotham
Fluke_Skywalker22 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Plot; Galavan's plot to seize Gotham continues while Jim Gordon and his team square off against a new threat with a tragic origin.

Along with a tighter focus on the story at large, the other big difference between S1 and S2 of Gotham is the sheer, graphic brutality of it. Limbs are severed, people are shot, impaled and blown up with bloody and unflinching results. In fact, though the series can at times tiptoe that line between comic and camp, I'd say it's more violent, more graphic, than Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.
