Two episodes, but I didn't know it.

Warning: Spoilers
Give this show a chance. Don't knock it. Don't call it boring.

Spoilers:

First episodes. Establishing the characters. Dorothy over the rainbow, or something, in a Kansas police car. Along comes a doggie named Toto. He is a German shepherd, a police dog, as it were. He is no longer a little basket dog. He is still adorable.

Scarecrow guy up on a post. Crow sitting on his shoulder. Gentleman has vague or no memory of his past. Turns out he was a wizard's guard. What did he do to get this punishment? Dorothy manages to get him down from his high perch. Later, he turns out to be very handy with the sword.

Evil witch in red dress. Stunning. Benevolent, too?

Black dressed witch. Her sister. Drug addled slur talking character. Mouths off at the wizard. Has no respect for him.

Wizard is an oaf. Doesn't act like a real CEO. Has shut down all of the previous magic in Oz. The witches are his competition, for control of the community.

Will Dorothy find the lion and tin man? Maybe in future episodes.

Maybe gigantic Toto will eat up any bad old witch characters.

A good actual character is the famous yellow brick road. It is actually a yellow poppy pollen road. Is it made of opium? Maybe the characters will fall asleep in the street. I'll get you, my pretties!!!

Despite a dark opening episode which does not relent in this second episode, you have to hand it to director Tarsem Singh who enlivens the visuals and costumes. He certainly tries to make this less like a Game of Thrones knock off despite the intentions of the various producers and network heads.

Dorothy and Lucas follow the yellow road through the mountains with Eamonn and his men in pursuit who takes his treacherous men to the cesspit of the witches. These men openly and loudly plan to revolt against Eamonn but there is nothing wrong with his hearing.

A lavish funeral is held for the wicked witch of the east, the wizard allows a temple to be unsealed for the ceremony and the use of magic.

Lucas is injured and Dorothy needs to find an apothecary as Lucas needs penicillin. They find a village and are directed to a house with a country witch, Mombi and her 'son' who she gives regularly doses of medicine and has him locked up.

Mombi notices that Lucas has a uniform and sword that signifies that he is part of the wizard's guard, a man who has had a violent past and we see him unleash his rage later in the episode. Dorothy is left unsure just who is her new travelling companion.
