The Flash - S03E18 Abra Kadabra
j_forbesy29 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This was an episode I was looking forward to ever since they released the synopsis for it. First of all we are ticking off another comic villain off the list, but secondly and most importantly, this episode was going to be the first step into working out a way to stop Savitar. With all the expectation, I was a little worried it was going to let me down, but it didn't.

This was a really good episode. While it doesn't peak into that top few for the season, I finished this episode ready to be strapped in for the last leg of the season. This episode started to set off the final leg while both building on some previous plot lines and starting some new ones.

I'll start by saying I really enjoyed Abra Kadabra as a villain. While it appears that this was the end of him, I still really enjoyed the was he toyed with the team and tempted them. Of course he was a really important villain to have at this stage of the season because he had such vital information on Savitar. Personally, I was starting to get a little bored during the middle of the episode because I was convinced at the end they were going to let him go for Savitar's name. But I was wrong, which I like because it shows that they aren't doing what I thought they would. I was really surprised that they didn't make the deal, which was a great pay of from the middle section of the episode dragging out a bit.

Something I really enjoyed this episode, which I always do but it stood out this episode, was the performances. For the most part this was very much a character driven episode as they fight between what they want and standing true to justice. I thought every character had at least one great moment throughout the episode. Characters like Joe and Iris had a few which really showed off how well Jesse and Candice are as actors. I thought the end scene with Cisco was amazing by Carlos, I don't think we have seen that sort of emotion from his for a long time on this show.

Looking forward to the future (pun intended), I'm really excited to see what they do with the next episode. Apart from a couple of times on Legends, we haven't seen much of the Arrowverse future, and when we have, they have been personal favourite episodes for me. In Legends we got to see a dark future for Arrow, and after seeing the trailer, I'm interested to see what sort of future we will get for Flash. Along with Barry going to the future, we are going to have some more Killer Frost stuff. I've always liked when Killer Frost was around so it will be great to see more of her next episode. Also, I think HR and his disappearance is going to play a part in the remainder of the seasons. After seeing the trailer for next episode, I'm jumping onboard the HR as Savitar train.

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode. I liked where it left us going into the month break because it really pumps up my excitement for the run home. Another solid episode for The Flash.

A lot better than "Duet"
joshrhoades31 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Not a bad episode all around.

"Duet" was absolutely horrific, definitely the worst episode of Flash ever, but this episode made up for it for sure.

I would've liked to see more regarding Savitar, but how I see it is this was just a filler/transitioning episode. In my opinion, they could have also done a better job with the tension of Abra Kadabra not telling them Savitar's identity, it seemed as though they were all way too OK with it. I mean Iris might die and like zero reaction that they let Gypsy take off with him? I don't know felt a little off to me.

Other than that I really am excited for more in-depth exploration into Killer Frost, the scene at the end was a big "what the heck!" Hopefully, they don't just put her in a box, I feel as though Caitlin has so much more to offer the show then just Caitlin.

Conclusively I would give this episode a hesitant 7/10.

The best episode after Episode 7!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode makes you care about all the characters, even Caitlin Snow. I enjoyed Caitlin's screen time as Killer Frost. It was very sentimental that Caitlin Snow acting as Killer Frost. It reminds me of the strained relationship between Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent in TDK. One thing for sure - Killer Frost - she's back!

How will Barry Allen will face her - it is going to be exciting. I've always liked when Killer Frost was around so it will be great to see more of her next episode. I am looking eagerly for the next episode.

My goodness things just got fast.

Warning: Spoilers
The whole season felt pretty average to be honest. Nothing too special happened, Savitar felt like a laid back "another speedster" villain.

These last few episodes (other than the Musical) felt like a roller-coaster. Savitar is really becoming a villain to talk about. His identity hasn't been revealed yet, but the producers of the show said it's going to be insane. This Episode was really good. Abra Kadabra sized up to be quite the villain, as he is from the 64th century. I will NOT say that this is a filler episode because it wasn't. As much as I loved Dr. Snow, im glad they finally are doing a full blown Killer Frost.

I cannot stress this enough, next episode is looking to be one of the best in the entire series. Barry is going to meet his future self, a new suit, and possible the identity reveal of Savitar.

This is my opinion, but im kinda glad they didn't involve Wally too much in the episode. This episode for the first time in a while, reminded us that Barry Allen is THE Flash. I have to say, the way he dolphin dived off of that skyscraper and phased himself through the time ship was freakin amazing.

Overall: 9.9/10 (H.R. was on vacation :D lol)

Useless episode Warning: Spoilers
We're back to our regularly scheduled mediocre Flash Season 3 episode. Tonight's episode (thankfully) wasn't that bad, but it should have been a fun standalone rather than attempting to tie it back to Savitar, especially since Abra Kadabra didn't even reveal Savitar's identity. There would have been the same amount of plot movement. David Dastmalchian was fun, but ultimately wasted. Hopefully they bring him back in the future sometime. Most of the rest of the episode was focused on Cisco/Gypsy and Caitlin/Julian, two relationships I have no interest in. It's not that romantic drama is inherently bad, but the Flash writers don't do the hard work in setting them up. It always feels rushed, and they force people together whether or not they have chemistry. The best part of this episode was (as usual) the visual effects and Jesse L. Martin. If this quality keeps up, I'm going to stop watching.

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: Abra Kadabra
lbramson11 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A magician from the future terrorizes Central City and he knows who Savitar is. To join episodes named after a villain played by an all star actor, we have Abra Kadabra played by the amazing David Dastmalchian. Abra Kadabra is one of my favorite villains from the comics and it was about time he showed up in awesome fashion! This is a villain of the week episode that connects to the main villain and tease Savitar's identity and even DeVoe for the next season. Also, Killer Frost is awaken once again and Gypsy returns, making this one of the most eventful episodes this season! All the teases makes this one of my favorites! I must say, though, where is Savitar? He showed up for the first in a while in Episode 15 and just disappeared.

9.2/10-Great!👍👍

Just tell us who Savitar is already!
AdamDroge29 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Quite frankly I'm slightly annoyed with this game the show creators are playing with us right now. Instead of having a main villain known from the beginning, this is the second straight season where the main villain is a mysterious, masked villain that the show is milking out the reveal for. Because we can't have a villain show himself from the beginning and spend the entire season taunting and tormenting Barry and co. We have to keep him mysterious and spend the entire season making the fans play a guessing game.

I don't like it. And what was the point of this episode? To tease us. That's literally it. We have a random, villain of the week from the future who uses magic. They catch him super fast and then he tells Barry that he knows who Savitar is and the tease of the episode is that he is going to tell us.

So Joe is the one who lets him out and Gypsy screws things up with her own personal vendetta. He escapes for a while and we catch him again where he eventually tells us... nothing. Because he was never going to anyways. He likes the idea of helping kill Iris by not telling Barry anything. Figures.

Meanwhile can we talk about how annoying Gypsy was this episode? I get her personal vendetta. Abra Kadabra killed her boyfriend and she wants him brought to justice. But can we compromise on things a bit, girl? This dude has some serious secrets that will help your new friends, but you don't give a crap about them or Iris and you'd rather let them die and suffer in favor of bringing justice with your own personal vendetta?

"Where does this leave us, Cisco?"

Hopefully nowhere. The forced romance was bogus CW nonsense anyways. It didn't work. Send her back to Earth 19 and never bring her back on the show.

So who is Savitar? And why are we 18 episodes in and have no idea who he is? I don't know about you, but I like my villains to have depth and substance to them. A villain's motivation is super important to me and I'd rather know that sooner rather than later. Right now Savitar is a useless dumb villain with a fancy suit and scary voice that wants to be evil for some unknown reason and they better have a dang good explanation for why they decided to keep everything a secret for so long. Because secret, faceless villains are annoying to me.

The one bit of progress we did get on this episode was on the Killer Frost front. Caitlin has been my favorite character since the beginning and I love Danielle Panabaker. The way they have been slowly setting up Killer Frost has been amazing. If we're talking about great villains with depth, emotion and motivation, Killer Frost is setting up to be a phenom and I want that story arc to last. In fact, if she was the season 4 villain, I would be totally down for that. That's a villain that I could get behind instead of this useless Savitar crap. Yeah, sure, they had the obligatory CW romance stuff with her and Malfoy that I rolled my eyes at. But that made the Killer Frost ending even more tragic. What if this sends Malfoy back to being Alchemy?

Yeah, there's some promise. Overall I'm still happy with this show and hopeful for its future. This specific episode just frustrated me because it was a big pointless tease. But Barry is going into the future now and Killer Frost is on the loose, so we're setting up for what I hope is a great episode that leads into a great season finale.

Too bad we have to wait a month to see it.

Full Blown Killer Frost
ThomasDrufke28 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It was one thing to have a musical episode that takes the plot exactly back where it was the episode prior (because at least the writers were trying something new), but it's another thing entirely to make the episode the very next week also take the plot nowhere. Wasn't this episode supposed to leave us with a big cliffhanger with Savitar so that the 4 week break is flooded with anticipation from fans? Well, we didn't get that.

I liked last week's episode for what it was. There wasn't a point in doing a musical episode in the grand scheme of the show, but it compensated for it with cute musical numbers. Why we spent an entire episode with Abra Kadabra teasing us with Savitar's identity, only to find out he was never going to tell us it in the first place, is beyond me. It's not that he was a bad villain, he was certainly serviceable as a filler villain, but it's frustrating that his presence amounted to nothing significant.

Hunting Kadabra was our other favorite viber, Gypsy from Earth-19. She had her own personal vendetta against him for killing her partner several years back. This made for a difficult decision on Barry's part to either let him go and find out Savitar's identity, or send him back with Gypsy to get justice for the crimes he committed. Of course, Barry would ultimately make the right decision, but I think in this case it may have been more interesting had Barry made the other choice. Or maybe I'm just bitter we didn't get Savitar's real identity.

The other big moment came from Caitlin finally turning into full blown Killer Frost. I can easily see this being temporary, but isn't that too typical of the writers? Maybe this time it's the real deal. Either way, it gives her something to do, after so many episodes (and years) of sitting in STAR Labs playing doctor. Overall, it was a disappointing week of The Flash. Worst part is that we have to wait 4 more weeks until we can get any new movement on the Savitar and Killer Frost front.

+Caitlin gets something to do

-No identity reveal

-What was the point of this episode?

On this ep of Iris' Do-Nothing, Not-Fast Bodyguard:
imakk200128 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
  • opens with plot device Barris out with Joe and Cecile while team flash is working on a little evil speedster problem that's been plaguing them for months

  • New level of Iris shoehorning achieved: Iris suits up to be CSIJulian's surgical assist while plot device CSIBarry stands there. Because.

  • Joe finally gets some spotlight, and of freaking course it's so he could get in on the fail-to-save-Iris storyline.

  • *gasp!* Another look at Iris' death because that will never get O.L.D! /s

  • Didn't take long to saddle Gyspy with relationsip-drama. Poor Cisco, still being haunted by girlfriend's pre-existing lover.

+/- the action/VFx of the entire sequence of FOUR superheroes trying to capture ONE villain: what Armen Kevorkian giveth the writers taketh away

+ Bad@ss: Caitlin for talking Julian through her surgery, and Julian for having to operate on the woman he loves.

+ Caitlin/Julian's doomed love is becoming more interesting than the show's predictable main pairing. I want Julian to have a happy ending, dammit!

+ Caitlin exploding and then coalescing in KF: didn't see that coming.

++ Abra Kadabra was a fun villain, too bad he was drowned out by mewlings about Savitar/save Iris.

----- Barry trying to be "clever" by traveling to the future instead of the past. Past or future, time travel = time travel. Only morons like Barry and team flash thinks it's not the same.

Score: the VFx, Caitlin/KF/Julian and Abra Kadrabra lifts this ep from 3 to 6.

Warning: Spoilers
Sorry for all Flash fans but this episode is as boring as the whole season. This episode wasn't exciting at all it was obvious that Abra Kadabra would betray Joe or that they don't find out who Savitar is! But the baddest thing of this season is the boring love story of Barry and Iris, I hate every scene of them together, not because I wouldn't like it if they are together don't get me wrong but the acting is so bad every scene of them is predictable and boring I hate it. I hope this season begins getting better now but until now it's really boring but I wish that now this season gets better now. If you like it, good for you but I don't, I wish I could but I don't 😔 5/10

David Dastmalchian rules here
marci-last-dance23 February 2023
David Dastmalchian is in his prime here. I like how he makes this character villainous and is portrayed really well. Everyone does a good job here also, not just Dastmalchian. This is the only episode of this show I've watched and I liked it.

My only problem with it is the CGI. Ok I know it's TV cgi, but it's not great, but I do understand it's made for tv so it's a bit poor. The portals and Flash's runs looked weird, but oh well they had a tight budget. At least I think...I dunno.

I don't know if I'm going to watch the rest of the series, but we'll see. David, hope you had fun playing this character.

Anyways...marcilovesutoo (that's how I end my reviews btw)

Is Joe really that stupid?
LittleStorpingInTheSwuff10 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
So Joe opens the door to the cell and expects Abra Kadabra to tell him the name of Savatar? Was it too complicated for Joe to demand the name of Savatar, and verify it, before he let Abra Kadabra out of his cell? If brains were chocolate Joe wouldn't have enough to fill an M&M. Sure, everything worked out in the end. But, come on berlanti and company, at least give the good guys some intelligence once in a while.

Oh, and as a result of Joe's stupidity Abra Kadabra gets to toss some sort of bomb, and look what happens to Caitlin.
