I first saw this series when I was just 10 years old in about 1983.
I then had the series gifted to me one year when I was about 38. The film lost none of its potency, it just demonstrated a good understanding of the period the corruption of Victoria Police, the plight of Irish Immigrants to the Australian Colonies, the corruption of Land Owners.
But the performance of John Jarrat in this film is probably the most amazing performance of his entire career. His dedication to historical accuracy not to mention his incredible resemblance to the actual Bushranger is simply amazing. Casting was fantastic and the performances compelling.
The film depicts in detail the entire saga of the Kelly Gang in explicit detail and it is arguably the most accurate film about the events that led Ned Kelly on a path that would inevitably lead to his capture.
The most compelling detail that Kelly was to initiate a Eureka Stockade type rebellion against the Land Owners and the Victorian Government At Glenrowan was a detail many Australians are not aware of, that is gratefully portrayed in this film.
This film is "The" most accurate portrayal of the events of 1860 and the most accurate portrayal of the Kelly Gang. 10 Stars from me.
