Worst Episode Ever
dougmacdonaldburr28 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is the worst episode the show has ever done. It is way too difficult to follow. It is like one big dream sequence in John's mind. It keeps stopping and and restarting, morphing and changing. A concept that could have been awesome, but, actually sucks. The problem is they did not ground it, so it is impossible for the audience to follow. You could argue it is designed to mirror the confusion John must feel, but, that seems like a lazy cop out. It ultimately seems like lazy filler before the finale. Very disappointing. The finale better be a home run or the ending will be a complete waste to an otherwise great series.

This episode shocked me and kept me hooked, but on the worst possible way.
aqweiortyu29 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It shocked me, well let's be honest, it shocked all of us, nobody expected this. And it kept me hooked the entire time because I was expecting at some point to see a guy in the background holding a sign saying: "This episode is just a prank bro", so at least it gets a reaction from me by making me smile in pain and cry blood, just to wipe my "What is this s***" face expression, but sadly it didn't happen...

SPOILER!!

All that happens in this episode never actually happened except maybe the last 30 seconds... I say maybe because after this episode I don't know what to expect... so that means this is just a painfully tedious filler episode with no other point that to make the audience go: "wow, so shocking and unexpected, what an original and smart episode", but obviously failing to do so by delivering us a pointless and boring as f*** episode.

So yeah... not happy about this mess of an episode...

After this I'm so scared to watch episode 10... Please don't destroy such an enjoyable show in the last 2 episodes, PLEASE!!

Skip this Ep, what a tragedy
speaktomenow2 June 2017
Wow. What a train wreck. As a long time fan I kept waiting for this to get important. It's the second to last episode so surely we will get some purpose and resolution? Nope! This is the Ep that will sadly define the missed opportunity and the wasted talent that could have made this a seven season series. No wonder they opted to kill the show off when you see this episode.

My disappointment can barely be captured, even the brief appearance of Ben Mendehlson can't save this pointless 'filler' Ep. At such a crucial time, the penultimate episode they chose to waste it on this awful script. Was there a writers strike? What happened here? I wish nothing more than to assure any long time fans that you can skip this Ep. It adds nothing, there is no point and it's just 60 minutes of tiresome viewing that feels like homework. It taints the whole series sadly.

Yes, this Ep can be skipped.

WTF? How to destroy a TV box set in easy steps.
syacey4 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Ok so Netflix decided they were killing the show off at the end of season 3, so clearly, whoever produced, wrote and directed the last few episodes had to try and wrap it up ASAP and boy they did a shocking Job. Pure ridiculous rubbish.

The worst part, besides everything, was Danny's (Mendelsohn's) really terrible wig.

A pathetic time filler
knifemagnet30 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
If you haven't made it this far into the series yet, you may as well just entirely skip this episode as it contributes nothing, yes zero, to what until midway through this season has been a very good show. Nearly none of what transpires in this episode is reality; I really have no idea why they went this route - did half of their original writers leave or get fired? Basically, if this episode is trying to show how haunted John is over the events of the series it is a simple waste of time; his paranoia and suspicious behavior prior has amply shed light on that. And sure, if you want to write a dream sequence to expand on that go for it, but make it just that - a dream sequence that only needs to comprise minutes, and not an entire hour and episode of it. As others have stated, if they did a lazy job on the finale this entire series may be torpedoed. Just awful - and some should be ashamed of this at Netflix.

Shockingly Bad Episode
dnoel9918 June 2017
You can completely skip this episode since 90% of it is imagined and didn't even happen. I can't remember how many times I said "WTF is going on?" out loud but it was at least a dozen. They should have made it a 9 episode final season. Completely pointless unless you like episodes where nothing that happens actually happens. And I love this show, aside from this bizarre waste of time.

Weird but so is psychosis
rbost-7023326 August 2019
Think about it. You kill your older brother by your hands in the surf. Because? You're worried about your Mother's inn in the Keys being taken by the feds? Because if drugs being found onsite? Nice spot, sure. Guess what. Ain't worth that aggravation. But John had to protect the legacy. Drove him a bit crazy. As happened to Kevin, Meg. They're all nuts. This episode is a weird attempt to flashback some mental stuff that somebody might have under severe mental trauma. Not the worst, maybe not the best. Not a "1".

This episode was pointless and added nothing to the series. Just seemed like it was filler. You can skip this episode and not miss anything, it might even save you from disappointment.

One of the Best Single Episodes in Television History
tstreissguth25 November 2019
Slowly, weirdly, and relentlessly, John Rayburn is going nuts. Cracking up. Losing it. Moving back and forth in time, in dimension, in reality, he's no longer living the dream in the Florida Keys. He's living the creepy, terrifying nightmare. Reality is shifting, events aren't making sense, and those steady, reliable anchors known as time, place, personality and mood are no longer so reassuring. They've become a menace, and the strong, steady familiy guy, the cop, the pillar of the community is on the way to a complete breakdown.

Why? He's committed one of the worst possible crimes you can commit - all to save a family that's no longer worth saving. His bright and optimistic soul has grown black with guilt, with anger and with regret.

This is an unforgettable episode, by far the best in the entire series, and easily the most riveting depiction of creeping insanity you've ever seen. If you can't follow the plot - if the story is moving in strange directions - if nothing makes sense and you feel lost, disgusted, and more than a little creeped out, well then, my friend . . . you're getting it.

IMHO the writers were scrambling
billgearhiser8 October 2021
I'm just guessing here, but if you look at why the series only went three seasons, you quickly find that Florida dropped some tax incentives, making the show too expensive to continue. Suppose the producers found out about that change after episode 31, when they were already building up the plot to leave some cliffhangers for the end of season 3. Then they say OMG, we've got to wrap this whole thing up in two episodes. It calls for some intentionally disorienting writing. I haven't seen the last episode, but I assume they manage to wrap up all but a few threads one way or another, so the viewers don't feel completely cheated. (And, as of this writing - September 2021 - the plans are in place to have a season 4)

Rock Bottom
welkineye16 June 2017
Season 3 has been generally poor compared to the first two seasons which were both superb. There has been much padding, the writers seeming unsure or unable to develop the story further. This episode is unfortunately the worst - the others were watchable (just). All screenwriters know that trying to show psychological issues is very difficult (hence why some novels have not been adapted for screen). The dream sequences do not progress the story further - if anyone was been watching this from the beginning they would be in no doubt as to how John and everyone else feels about what they have done - this is just more padding but this time in a ball gown. Dreadful penultimate episode.

Completely agree. AWFUL Episode
waqok29 May 2017
At this point, 42 minutes into this episode, I have watched nothing that makes any sense. Complete waste so far. So many lose ends of things and we all know there is only one episode left to finish. These twisted recaps are impossible to follow, and they don't add to the story at all. Boo.

Seems like the Kesslers & Zelman can't conclude a story
misslaurenreaddie14 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I was a huge fan of Damages, and I'm Australian, so I was loving Ben Mendelsohn's performance, but since his death, I truly felt like I was forcing myself to see this through. Just like Damages, this series showed massive potential, but it just seems like the Kesslers and Zelman don't know how to wrap up a story. They failed with Damages and they failed even worse with this. That's two chances - I won't give them a third.

I guess this is the Episodes where the writers ran out of ideas.

Warning: Spoilers
Seriously disappointed in the last 2 episode of season 3. Its like the writers said to themselves 'F**k it, we don't know where to go on this, throw in a weird dream episode and follow it up with more rubbish. job done" OK, Will give them a pass on 2nd last episode, but then you wait and expect something good on the last and BOOM. Nothing. I assume this will not make a season 4.

People crying like babies
mjh881 June 2017
Seriously don't understand what people are crying about. Possibly the fact that everyone expected another two seasons or more before Netflix announced there would only be 1 more season, and now with so little time left we get a dream oriented episode which obviously people instantly think is a waste. I feel a bit differently. I thought the episode was pretty interesting, John relived much of his life, past regrets and worst fears, he was clearly looking for answers as to why everything happened the way it did, and plus we finally got to see Danny again. Other reviewers have been talking about not being able to fully understand what was happening, which is exactly the point, it is a dream after all. Finally Kyle Chandler was amazing in this episode as he always is, but this episode was one of his best performances in this series, the scene at the end when Sally is dying in the hospital and John and Danny have that talk was brilliant. Yes a bit of an unexpected episode but i enjoyed it, its surely not a 1/10 in my books like 70% of the voters think, but more like a 7/10 for me.

Great acting from Kyle Chandler

I thought this episode was very good unlike others reviewing on here. It took a deep dark dive into John's past and mind. Was good to see Danny again too.

Bad reviews not justified!
pogematt24 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Bloodline is a great series. Having looked up the reviews I was ready for the supposed let down of the final two episodes but i am relieved to say that I think they done a pretty good job. The series concludes in the only way it could really. The penultimate episode searches John's conscience and helps us understand the stress and turmoil he's been going through. Not worthy of all the bad reviews!

What's even happening??
shantellehohnadel5 March 2021
I've loved this entire show, so the only reason I didn't give this episode 1 star is because I think the acting was still great. But this episode's "story" fits absolutely nowhere. Stinky.

WTF?
BoomerDT9 October 2020
I'm with the consensus on this. I think the Kessler's were trying to pull off the something similar to what happened in a few episodes of "The Sopranos" with various dream sequences. In this case it was done virtually the entire episode so we had no idea of where imagination ends and reality begins. Season 3 had started making a good comeback about halfway through with the frame job on Eric and the subsequent efforts of the Rayburn family to cover their tracks, only to find out they keep digging themselves into a deeper hole. So they next to last episode could have been setting the stage for a dramatic finale-except we got an hour of virtual nonsense. Not sure of what to believe in this series, I'll check out the finale cause I've been with it this long. Maybe Sissy Spacek walks into the bathroom to find Sam Shepard in the shower and it's all been a dream, ala 1980's "Dallas"
