Good and bad kinda cancel
blsto6 June 2021
The thing that most informs this rating for me is that Spongebob and Patrick are both intentionally and unintentionally jerks at various points in these episodes, which is annoying. Whirly Brains doesn't really stand out; some funny jokes, nothing too memorable. It's a little odd that they brought in Ed Asner for the small role he plays. MermaidPants has a good concept with the gang pretend-playing as superheroes and villains, and it's particularly fun to see Mr. Krabs and Squidward pretending(?) to be villains. Ultimately, some jokes land, some jokes don't.

A great start of season 10

First of all whirly brains it wasn't as good as mermaid pants but it felt like pranks a lot but with better animation sponge-bob has been getting a lot better since Patrick the game so i will tell you why i loved this episode it had one of those bizarre plots just like season 1,2,3 and 4 then mermaid pants a bit i loved Dr negative that was my favorite bit of the episode and i'm hearing that there's a sequel in season 11 while patchy is returning in season 10 and so is spot so i think season 10 will be a very good season and if they could just show the new episodes on nick all the time then that would be brilliant so i'm hoping for more episodes like this in season 10 and i hope you confirm spot returns and mermaid pants II sponge-bob has been getting out of the hole it has been in these few years in 2015 they finally got out of deep deep deep hole they've been into i've always been a sponge-bob fan so i hope it stays that way these two episodes were really good so i am giving it a 10/10 it was brilliant.

Very mediocre pairing to start Season 10

Warning: Spoilers
I found this pairing very mixed and pretty mediocre over all.

I liked Mermaid Pants quite a bit, while the plot is not entirely original and slightly underwhelming, it makes up with some pretty funny gags here and there, and Squidward's "Doctor Negative" character was very entertaining especially near the end where he fully embraces a villain arc.

However... I hated Whirly Brains! The problem I have with Whirly Brains is, majorly, its plot. Not only is it one of the most stupidest and absurdist plots in SpongeBob history, but it's also not funny nor interesting enough to justify the full 11 minute runtime. Its plot is so absurd and ridiculous, that's its mere existence is just baffling. Unlike Mermaid Pants, this episode has no moments that are even slightly amusing and engaging. It is one of the many bad episodes of the show that failed to make me laugh, smile or even chuckle. I only remembered vividly of this episode only because of the random and absurd ending bit, where Squidward breaks the fourth wall and quotes the famous line from the 1956 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Even that was not even funny, it was more weird than anything else. It's just a terrible episode, that has been left to be forgotten, for very obvious and good reason.....and honestly, it should stay that way.

Whirly Brains: 2/10 Mermaid Pants: 7/10 Overall Rating: 4.5/10.
