This was a very well done film that kept my attention throughout
baccaruda16 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There's a lot to like about this movie. The opening sequence uses a pointed metaphor that encapsulates the entire slow-burn atmosphere that film maker Ahcitz Azcona deftly incorporates throughout. I personally enjoy when film makers use more literary aspects of the filmmaking process. It is an aspect of independent filmmaking that seems to have been lost on more mainstream films. The set up is fairly straightforward. A successful businessman and his family are targeted for extortion by unknown thugs. That premise leads to genuine suspense for the viewer, as well as an unexpected finale. A triple threat talent, Mr. Azcona, who not only directed, but also wrote and starred in the film, has excellent actors at his disposal who help to bring the film to vibrant life. Production values are likewise excellent, with beautiful shots that are well-composed, adding strong visual appeal that keeps the audience engaged. As a lover of independent film, I found this movie to be one of the best I have seen, and recommend it wholeheartedly.l.

Slick!

A beautifully shot indie thriller. With a shorter runtime it moves quickly. Sometimes it's nice for a movie to get in and out and keep you wanting more. Some very solid directing. Worth checking out for sure.

A Terrific Indie Film!!
craigahrens5 July 2022
This is such a good film! Writter/Director/Actor Ahcitz Azcona did an incredible job! It's hard enough to direct a film... but to also play a prominent role as an actor is a whole other thing! All the acting in this film is top notch! The film has a wonder look and story too! This film for sure gets a thumbs up from me!

Really enjoyed this

An interesting, taut, well done movie. At a lean 72 minute running time, there's no fat on this well paced thriller. And it will keep you guessing. Don't let the subtitles throw you. It's an accessible film you will absolutely enjoy. Well written, acted and directed.

Glad I took a chance on this

A solid thriller. The plot, acting and storytelling were all better than I expected from an indie film. But the real stand out is the director's ability to keep the suspense going. I was a total wreck and it was awesome. Ha ha.

Suspense Thriller

The wonderful cast took us on a suspenseful trip not knowing, along with them, what was going to happen. Impressive use of the camera. Watching it unfold added to the suspense. Kudos to producer/director/actor Ahcitz Azcona. Great job.

You gotta watch The Inevitable Death of the Crab!
mettlesetdesigner5 October 2022
The Inevitable Death of The Crab is an extortion plot crime drama that is great at causing the audience to feel the paranoia from beginning to end. The plot is good and kept me guessing throughout the whole movie. The acting is solid and I loved the father/son dynamics. At only 70 minutes long it is a bit shorter than most but the story flows as it should. No reason to make it longer when the story is told as it should be. The opening sequence does a great job at reminding us crime does still exist in Mexico and it could happen to anyone. Two thumbs up! I recommend The Inevitable Death of the Crab.

A Lean, Dark Thriller With a Subtle, Political Point of View
nathan-307152 May 2023
In Ahcitz Azcona's "The Inevitable Death of the Crab" a Kafkaesque scenario is set in motion when a seemingly inconsequential prank call is brushed off by Carlos (Juan Manuel Zacona), a wealthy middle-aged businessman who stays home in Mexico City with his adult son, Santiago (Azcona) while his wife and daughters leave on a pleasure cruise. When the sinister caller rings back, Santiago rashly taunts him and the garden variety extortion attempt suddenly gets very personal. Almost immediately Santiago and Carlos understand they have gone too far, but it is too late. Their paranoia soon gives way to reality and when they realize that even the investigating police are compromised, they enlist the help of Santiago's godfather (Ricardo Niño) who confidently pulls in a favor from a high-level political connection. However, the government and societal corruption that permeates every crevice of this film has spread too far, and soon Carlos and Santiago face a terrifying denouement. Azcona, who also directs, writes, produces and edits, has crafted a lean Hitchcockian thriller that really succeeds in giving us a visceral feeling for what it is like to live in a world where institutions have broken down, and the trauma of corruption is felt by everyone, from innocents to criminals.

The Inevitable Death of the Crab is a good feature with lots of political intrigue
mwcurran26 October 2023
Spanish language drama about a political system plagued by corruption. As the drama unfolds the story takes unpredictable twists and turns that will keep you guessing till the very end. Very good independent movie made on a small budget. You will enjoy this film! I found the characters well developed and the camera work was quite good. Indie movies are difficult to make well on a low budget but this one came through with flying colors as I was really interested in finding out what would happen so I stuck with it till the end and am really glad I did. If you are looking for good drama with lots of twists this is an excellent choice.

Very well done
sowden_jd14 October 2022
You never know what to expect with Indie films. High toff the bat, this movie had me in its clutches. I loved the opening with the old school footage ad the way that they transition it form that footage into the modern time was pretty damn cool. I have to say I was hooked form that moment. I wont get into spoilers but I will compliment the direction. I fund myself laughing, scared, tense, annoyed (in a good way! Phone ringing!) and just about everything in between. I thought the acting was spot on as well and no actor took away from the story. The cinematography was also visceral and you felt the characters emotions through the shots. I loved this and highly recommend!

Good Low Budget Thriller
mikadoog14 April 2022
This film was well acted and directed and the plot was timely and interesting. It centers on an extortion plot involving the Mexican gangs and police and the wealthy Mexican family caught in the middle of it all. It did a good job with the slow suspense.

impressive thriller
mich1elle27 October 2023
The Inevitable Death Of Crab is an impressive thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through.

This fast pace movie never has a dull or dragging moment in it. With all the twist and turn it pulls you right in and never lets you go.

Ahcitz Azcona is not only the writer, director, and also an actor in this movie. The script is so well written and directed, and all of the actors give an amazing performance.

The camera work on this movie is so well done, that it defiantly adds to the twist and turns and overall thrill of this movie.

This is a movie that I will be putting on my favorite list.

I can't wait to see more work from Ahcitz Azcona!

A Tight, Well-Written Indie Thriller
adrianjettleon20 May 2022
I highly recommend this gem of a thriller. It is beautifully written, directed, photographed and edited. The story kept me on the edge of my seat. There were genuine moments that made my pulse quicken. I'm bilingual in English and Spanish and am afraid that those who'll on the English subtitles won't get to appreciate how funny this movie really is. It captures the father / son relationship beautifully and all of the slang reminded me of my own dad. It's only about 72 minutes and is well worth taking the time to watch and enjoy. This film is one of my favorites I've seen all year and that includes studio picture.

What a beautiful surprise
laproduccion11 February 2022
Hidden gem of modern independent cinema!

This movie captivated me from the first moment, then I gradually immersed myself in the plot, to finally find myself with what I consider to be one of the best endings I've ever seen in a movie.

Who is the Crab?

As exciting and different as the title itself.

Can't believe this is an Indie film
roblesharhold13 June 2022
I'm not sure what happened here, if this film did not apply to the right festivals or what. But any HUGE distributor or studio should have grabbed this film and marketed the hell out if it. It's better than 80% of the stuff that is made by studios. This was grit and hard work at its best! See this film, it looks good, acted great and all around an great piece of work! Not gonna give spoilers away, you can watch the trailer and get an idea of the film.

Highly recommended indie movie!
Tilman-Borck8 October 2022
"The Inevitable Death of the Crab" is a highly original indie movie. It takes you on a journey that you did not expect beforehand. It uses a classical thriller plot but has a special modern take on it. The actors are extremely convincing and the cinematography, especially how it is lit is great. There are some original choices here when it comes to the plot and Ahcitz Azcona as the director who is also responsible for writing and is starring really cuts down to the essentials and offers us a great ride. It is remarkable that this movie was shot on a shoestring budget because it looks like 10 Million dollars. If you're tired of always the same Hollywood formula, give this one a chance. It deserves it.

A thriller that deserves to be seen
Movies_And_Frights23 March 2022
I love watching films with subtitles. I don't want to give anything anyway with my review because the story takes many twist and turns and will keep you guessing. I very rarely believe that a movie needs to be close to the two hour mark, so the slim running time of this movie is perfect. I never felt bored or checked my phone. Excellent cinematography, acting and story.

Exceptional Indie Thriller!
bartlettdirect16 February 2022
With a title this wonderfully intriguing, I had no idea what to expect from this stunningly original Mexican political thriller from actor/director Azcona. The slippery slope of suspense, dread and paranoia on display here is simply breathtaking to behold and played to perfection by Azcona himself and his terrific cast. Classic indie filmmaking at its very best.

I really enjoyed this indie!
rsmithline5417 February 2022
I love how the suspense builds and it's so hard to predict how far it will go and what's going to happen to the two main characters. Well shot, directed and, acted. It's also not a long commitment with an hour fifteen runtime. I definitely recommend checking this film out!

An Impressive Thriller With a Great Ending
briandilorenzofilm6 July 2022
I was blown away by Ahcitz Azcona's superbly acted and directed feature The Inevitable Death of a Crab." It's a tense, pulse-pounding thriller packaged into a brisk 72 minutes. Azcona stars as the main protagonist Santiago, a loyal and loving son whose life starts to unravel when his family begins receiving threatening phone calls to their home. Azcona gets great mileage out of these scenes, letting the tension build slowly call after call, without ever losing our attention. The film looks gorgeous, set mostly in a modern, upscale home in Mexico, with minimal set changes, except for a few great scenes at the tennis courts and driving in their car. As Santiago says in the film, most Hollywood bad guys now are "Mexicans" in "yellow filters" hanging out in "saunas." His bad guys are most certainly not that, and the ending you will never see coming.

Suspense filled, indie thriller
BMovieCommander16 February 2022
This is a solid indie thriller. Some audiences might be turned off by subtitles, but I always prefer that to dubbing. It is wonderfully shot and the acting is top notch. The story takes viewers on a thrill ride that is triggered for unknown reasons, leading to a suspenseful story and an unexpected climax.
